Default Walter - Graphical Theme Editor

Hi all,

I wanted to say that I'm currently designing a "Graphical Theme Editor" for walter.
It will be coded in Java to be multiplatform compatible.
Currently the class design process is almost done and I should start to code the software the next month ;-)

The goal is to reduce to it's maximum the code you have to write.
Almost everything will be graphical but you'll still be able to add custom expressions and operations.

As soon as I get something usable, I'll post screenshots and demo video.

You might want to take a look at this thread, there might be some useful crossover with work already done.

For myself, I'm remain very excited by the idea of a WALTER editor, but sadly sceptical about whether such a thing would be of help beyond static layout, which is only the the first-step easy bit of writing WALTER longhand. Love to be proven wrong, though

The editor won't be static at all ;-)

Cool. I advocated (shrieked?) for a graphical editor from Cockos during the alphas.

I have nothing to do with the Cockos Reaper Team but I'll do what I said... I have free time ahead, a lot of experience behind and currently a lot of motivation... So... ;-)

Thanks for all your messages ;-)

Classes design is now finished and I've started to write some code...

It's far from amazing but here is a small screen capture of the current files/classes already written.

Now I'm about to start the coding of an RTConfig parser...
The biggest challenge will be the perfect "conversion" of all the expressions associated with each components !

Have a nice day ;-)

I never check the "REAPER Color Themes and Icon Sets" forums, but I just logged on to request a WYSIWYG editor and stumbled across this... awesome.

I greatly look forward to this.

It is not a screen shot of my software because there is currently no GUI but it's a part of my source of inspiration for what concern Walter UI component parameter configuration.

Additionnaly, it will be possible to modify some of these parameters directly with the mouse by dragging some anchors.

Will there be a way to simply set the track height and width, add all the track control components by dragging into the desired arrangement, snapshot the setup, and then adjust the track height and width again and repeat the process for all the required track height/width configurations?

I guess what Im asking is, will this be a true WYSIWYG editor where elements like mute buttons and record buttons are dragged and scaled visually into place on a mock up tcp and mcp track?

I'm planning on having some artist friends do mockups when this gets released. This thing is going to do so much to open up the quality and variety of themes for reaper.

On other thought is, it would great to include a eye dropper where a pallet of 8 or so colors could be selected directly from the img files. That pallet could then be used to randomize the rest of the theme color settings to quickly try many different permutations for the rest of the colors in the theme.

When my editor will be released, I'll launch a forum on my website so you'll be able to tell me about thing you would like me to add.
First of all I think that the most important thing is to achieve my first goal. After that, ok no problem, I'll be open to new features ;-) Developping such a software alone is an hudge enterprise and it should be achieved step by step...
