musicbynumbers,

You need to select your items with alt+drag so a time selection is created around them (this will determine the PiP length in main project to fit momentarly the space selected items were occupying). Reaper asks for a name for the new PiP and that's it.

Btw, you need to download lastest sws' extension build #5 (he added those actions last night)

Thanks Mercado,

Got the latest sws but before I try it..

What about the action "open external editor"? I have this set to an editor so will it not just open the files in that editor?

Wasn't keen on trying this until I found out why that command is in there

I wouldn't call this feature request "done" ... PIP is a WIP.

for sure, but you truly have to stand in amazement at the work that has been done thus far, i think its such a drastic change, people will take it in for a while and then realize what more can be done with it. Im certain youll see the additional FRs relating to it flood in

Indeed, this will take some versions to be fully usable. It's only a baby now and like a baby it needs some love and attention to grow up strong and smart. It is here now, alive but fragile... few implementations are still needed but as I said it's only a baby... it's crawling... soon it will walk... and at some point it will run Just don't lose the faith in it devs, this a truly amazing feature.

I only hope going the .rpp route for ReaParts will not cause inconveniences. Of course it's cool and all and very innovative, but I feel a bit reminded to the use of *.mid files for ghost MIDI items.

Right now my only real niggle is cpu overhead. Middle heavy projects will show glitches, unresponsiveness and finally very often a red flashing transportbar. That'll improve much with coming (pre)versions, I'm sure.

I see a need for an "end of project" marker btw, this will come in handy to make PiP's loop nicely without inserting a dummy item to lengthen the subproject to where you want the loop end to be. Did that sentence make any sense?

For some reason even if I follow this my pips end up about 2 bars infront of where they should be and I need to expand the pip folder to see them.

Any clues to what's causing it, if I have the objects at the beginning its fine, Dont recal having a project offset either.

Be great if you could still play your parent project whilst editing the other (perhaps with the tab options you can.. will explore)

I don't understand why this happens to you, it should work ok because I've included in the macro "Cut items + paste them" to avoid this. Did you watch the video? Maybe there's something there that could give you a clue about what's happening.

PiPs are near useless for the not too organised (ME) rpp everywhere
And i could really use this feature recently a hell of a lot

The key feature for me would be the option to freeze the output of the pip automatically, so it doesn't consume any cpu when minimised

Joining in the bumpage. PiPs/parts have a lot of potential. I look forward to seeing loads more work done on them.

In the meantime, a shameless bit of self-promotion:

I was struck by how *useful* regions are to me, in lieu of parts. (Indeed, they'd even be useful in conjunction with parts, but seeing as we haven't got proper parts, yet..) Dragging and dropping big chunks of project around is *almost* what you get by having lots of things stored as parts.

However, there are a couple of serious problems with how region dragging/copying works! And I've outlined them in the following FR. If it makes sense to you and you'd like to see the changes implemented, please vote "yes" .. http://forum.cockos.com/project.php?issueid=2140

Many thanks. :-)

PiP it! PiP it gooood.

Would be nice to be able to have the actual project in another project rather than a copy. (unless I'm mistaken)

Then when I finally get me an i7 with a bajillion GigaRAMS of byte, I'll be able to dump all my projects in one project to rule them all and make a more cohesive bunch out of 'em.

This would be a KILLER feature for me.

And I can think of four people who I could convert to Reaper if it makes it into a future release.

Forgive me, I'm having trouble finding the feature. I searched for Amalgamation and ReaParts/PiPs and only found this and other, threads but not what seems to be a feature request I can vote on? - and I definitely want to vote for this

Do you have a direct link to the one I should be voting for?

No possibility to vote here as such. But this is the correct thread. Just say here you'd like to have it!

And uh...A few thousand +1's from me to, for a proper ReaParts implementation. Current PiPs, I kick them back to the depths of the sea!
