Default anyone using 4k monitors on 13-inch, Mid 2012 mac book pro?

i am looking for a monitor and i see contradicting information :

Here it says it won't work:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206587

here says that this is not true and it's a blast from the past:
https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comment...ro_4k_support/

other say it can work at 30 Hz:
http://appleinsider.com/articles/16/...ficial-support

What is your experience in this?
Any advice? i am not a gamer , nor a 3D designer , but i might do some graphics and video.

I tried using a 4k TV with my late 2013 iMac. Everything that was still looked great but anything moving (meters, playback cursor, mouse cursor) was super jittery and not usable. I think it's because it was working at 30Hz and not 60hz.

I ended up having to get a 1080p TV for now and it works fine.

I have been testing the waters with my new MacBook Pro Retina and my 4k TV in my living room and everything is great.

Now I'm waiting for the iMac Pro to come out so I can replace my 2013 iMac and get a 4k TV as the display for the studio.

All you can do is try I suppose but I think you'll find that it only works at 30Hz and isn't really usable unless you want to deal with choppy movements.

No problem. What I meant to say is that your older 2012 MBP may have the issues I describe (choppy movements) but the newer Macs that support 4k/5k at 60Hz should have no problems.

Seems that around 2014 is when they started supporting 4k/5k displays.
