how do i split an item at mouse cursor?

Hi there, I m pretty new to reaper but want to move some of my stuff i do on other daws (I m on linux so I use Mixbus , Ardour, Bitwig-studio,....) to reaper as it seems to be very powerful and customizable.

I do a lot of film editing and therefore i have one specific question: how would i cut an item at the mouse point? I mean is there a way to set up a short cut? I have this behaviour in mixbus and enjoy it a lot, for example while i play back a scene to the director i can keep editing and working not affecting the playback cursor, and i often need to splice files, over lap them , etc. so something like: hover over an item and then havinf a short cut like ´s´ to split the file would be fantastic. There is an action for it and you can assign that to any key you want.

Open the action list (Actions menu > Show action list), search for and select "Item: Split item under mouse cursor" then click on the Add button in the shortcut section at the bottom left.

If you have a lot of splitting to do, it saves a lot of time if you assign that action to a toolbar button. I have mine assigned to a razorblade icon.

Then, if you right-click the button it will light up and you can mouse around and left-click any item anywhere to split it. Right-click the toolbar button again to disarm it.

This really speeds up edits on recorded live shows, to cut it up into separate songs.
