Default FX-insert: latency compensation is only serial?

Of course, when you chain plug-ins they are listed vertically in a serial manner, but given that REAPER can process individual channels one would thing that plug-ins are processed in parallel and serial in respect to how the channels are chained.

Now, the VST intergration of my hardware DSP is restricted to maximum two inputs. So if I would like to use REAPERS fantastic side-chaining possibilities for these I would have to load two mono plug-ins for processing L and R respectively, feeding the other input with a detector signal.

REAPER normaly handles latency introducing plug-ins, but not when patching up a parallel chain like explained above. If the signal to be processed was dual mono, the output becomes a sort of pseudo stereo because of the phasing.

Would latency compensation within parallel chains be possible to implement? It would obviously tax the CPU more, but worth it i.m.o.
