Default How can I have 3/4 time on one track and 4/4 on another track?

I want to use different time signatures on different tracks.

Thanks!

Is there a DAW that you know of that can do this?

Edit: Right now I'm just changing the sig and working out the midi notes. Switch to the next track. Change the sig again. Work on the new track. Got to write the sig in the track name to remember.

^Hey-yip--your using it=reaper.. you can totally have pre_recorded 4/4 running in a 3/4 timeline (or vice versa)
In any case it matters not what your project signiture is set to-- you can still record 'live in' at any time sig..
Also-is this not a subproject use? you can have multiple sigs like that m8. =)

Meanwhile, this might help:
(a) set the MIDI Editor to "1 MIDI Editor per track",
(b) open the MIDI clip on the "4/4" track, set its Grid to 1/16 straight,
(c) open the MIDI clip on the "3/4" track, set its Grid to 1/8 triplets.
(d) show the Track List is each Editor; make both clips visible in both; in the first, lock the "3/4" track; in the second, lock the "4/4" track.

Nope. What you're trying to do is highly unusual. You'll have to find some kind of workaround.

I haven't done it but I believe you could create and render a track while in one time signature, then work in the other time signature. You could also probably have the track(s) of one time signature saved as a sub-project. All theoretical, but either method should work.

There are a lot of YT vids on polyrhythms.

Typically, ese 4/4 for the song's time signature.

Thinking of MIDI drum loops, for example, pick a 4/4 clip and drag it for 12 bars. Pick a 3/4 clip on a second track and drag for 12 bars. Loop the 12 bars. The 2 tracks will resolve on the 1 of Bar 1. Then there's 5/4, 7/4, 7/8 etc. A little bit of math will give you the bar that all of the 1's resolve on.

Fun!

Exactly, I was hinting that polyrhythms are very usual and normal, and in Reaper it's easiest accomplished via the method DarkStar provided. At least that's one quick way I use. I think the use of the term "two different time signatures" is throwing people since typically it's a single time sig and the non-standard subdivisions notated at the note level like triplets, quintuplets, septuplets and so on but.... you'd get the same result if you "could" use separate time sigs.

Polyrhythms themselves are fairly common but in my experience they are usually notated using a common time signature.

I think that's what I just explained. But yes, that's the difference.
