Auto-Crossfades with Takes
I'd love auto-crossfades to work in Takes mode.
When I manually punch in new takes, I currently have to also manually adjust every joint between the punched in audio item and the previous audio item. Can get very time consuming with certain types of projects and generally I always want crossfades anyway!
I already have it turned on for splits, so I'd love to have the option to have it on for Takes that overlap other items. (Fade In's at the beginning of items and fade out at the end of items might be nice too.)

Yes! This needs to happen!
Default autocrossfade value for both ends of the overdub that overlaps a previous recording.

Don't know if the following feature would be possible to implement but what I'd like to have is the ability to have individual crossfades for every separate take. If I toggle between takes to find the best sequence (comp), I'd choose a particular length for the crossfade depending on that particular comp. If I toggle to listen to another take, this one might also fit but only after adjusting the crossfade. If I then toggle back to the provious take comp that sounded fine before I have now messed up the perfect transition because there's only one crossfade for all.

This would help save me from RSI
Seems like such a small/simple option to add. I have to do this manually, interrupting the session, to avoid accumulation. So, after a successful overdub session with multiple takes (almost all), I say, "smoke em if you got em" or "make yourself at home for a minute, I have to tidy up the tracks." I then proceed to mindlessly drag all the punch-ins so they overlap and crossfade. It's a pain! Not too bad compared to having to rewind tape I suppose..... :-/ In any case, the fewer mindless clicks I have to make the happier my RSI plagued hands will stay.

I came here to make the same request!
I would deeply love to have that option too.
Say I'm overdubbing acoustic guitar in sections - perhaps I keep making mistakes but I don't want to start again from the beginning - so I keep stopping and starting to record again a bar or two before I made the mistake.
I don't want the sound to be fading out and then in again where the takes stop and start, no matter how momentarily. That produces audible glitches.
This isn't a problem with something like vocals, where there are gaps. But with a continuous instrument it's a big problem.
It's very tedious to go over and change everything to crossfades, even with the best effort at a shortcut that I've been able to concoct. Which is (in case it can help anyone in the meantime:
1. Double click track panel to select all items in track
2. Select a small amount of time on either side of the join
3. Crossfade items within time selection (I have a shortcut "X" for this command.)
4. Repeat for all other joins.
Cheers!

I am a little confused.
As I understand the definitions in reaper, only
Items can have crossfades.
Items represent the positions - and thus can
have crossfades.
Takes are the lanes inside an item. They can
have FX, can be activated and split. Takes do
NOT represent the position, and thus cannot
have crossfades to other takes inside one item.
So if you need crossfades inside of one track,
I would suggest: Do this with different items
and "free item positioning" enabled.

Interesting description on the issue. I wasn't aware that "position" had something to do with why this doesn't work.
Crossfades can be created automatically when splitting an Item with multiple takes, but that same behavior cannot be created when recording one item onto another while creating a new take. It seems like it would work if when recording the new take it was also creating a new item.

I don't understand what you mean here. I'm unfamiliar with what "free item positioning" is/does.
