Default MPH_Default_5 Reaper Themes (Default/Default Dark/Default Flat/Default Flat Dark)

My simple tweaks to the excellent Default V5 theme. Thank you White Tie!!!

I used the Default 5.0 Nitpicky Edition as a starting point. Thank you Lokasenna!
(I switched back to the Default 5 silver volume knobs and rec mon elements)

My goal was for a simple / clear / clean theme for my personal taste and use. I edited / tweaked / removed... Sir WALTER / colors / images / lines / outlines / layouts / meters and anything else I could mess with...

There are only Standard (large size) and 3 Strip MCP layouts. Customized to my preferences and uploaded here in case anyone can make use of them...

Master TCP:
⦁ Standard
⦁ Standard + Value Readouts
⦁ Compact
⦁ Compact + Value Readouts
⦁ Full Meter

TCP:
⦁ Standard
⦁ Standard + Value Readouts
⦁ Compact
⦁ Compact + Value Readouts
⦁ Meter
⦁ Meter + Value Readouts
⦁ Big Meter
⦁ Big Meter + Value Readouts
⦁ Separator

ENVCP:
⦁ Standard
⦁ Compact

Master MCP:
⦁ Standard
⦁ Standard - Black Fader
⦁ Standard - Blue Fader
⦁ Standard - Red Fader

MCP:
⦁ Standard
⦁ Standard - Black Fader
⦁ Standard - Blue Fader
⦁ Standard - Red Fader

⦁ Strip
⦁ Strip - Just The Track Name
⦁ Strip - Separator

Transport:
⦁ Standard

⦁ I removed the rec mode & input FX elements from the TCP & MCP layouts.
(These can be easily accessed by right clicking on the track's meter or rec arm button)

⦁ The MCP rec input, pan label and volume label are visible at all heights.

⦁ Disconnected (moved) the track rec arm in the MCP from the volume background. Same for the settings button in the Master MCP.

⦁ MCP & Master MCP have options for black, blue and red faders (taken from the default V5 session mixer).

⦁ Lightened the TCP & MCP track panel background (section where the elements are) for the default / default dark versions.

⦁ Lightened the default color for the TCP & MCP track panel backgrounds.

⦁ The item background color is full strength and matches the track number field in the default / default dark themes and the whole track background in the default flat / default flat dark versions.

⦁ The item select background matches the TCP & MCP select backgrounds.

⦁ The Track title font is now WALTER font 8 in the Theme Tweaker.

There are 4 versions (variations). They all have almost everything in common...

Default / Default Dark / Default Flat / Default Flat Dark

⦁ The flat versions have simplified TCP / MCP backgrounds that let the full color through. It's best to use light / low saturation colors so the TCP / MCP elements don't get over powered.

⦁ The dark versions have the arrange colors adjusted for stealth work!

***12/13/15 UPDATE:
⦁ Fixed a couple of minor label margin / alignment inconsistencies.

***12/15/15 UPDATE:
⦁ Added Separator (blank panel) layouts to TCP & MCP.

***12/21/15 UPDATE:
⦁ Edited the background of TCP / MCP folder images to match the darker theme background.

⦁ Fixed TCP meters in the Standard / Compact layouts (left meter was wider than right meter).

⦁ Changed the TCP / Master TCP width center line color to match the MCP width center line color.

⦁ Other minor tweaks / changes...

***12/23/15 UPDATE:
⦁ Corrected inconsistencies with the folder alignment setting between layouts in the TCP / Master TCP / ENVCP. I used 'set f_align [1]' (line up all of the elements) as the folder alignment setting for all TCP / Master TCP / ENVCP layouts.

⦁ Tweaked the ENVCP layouts to better match TCP / Master TCP layouts.

⦁ Some other minor image / layout tweaks...

Fairly pleased and saved Dark version for testing. Watched enough of these Threads to know everyone has their personal preferences they should tweak as they choose.

Having said that, I prefer WT_Imperial (for my twin monitors) because The Master Mixer, Mixer, Track backgrounds have 'dark' Layout choices. Your Silver default has merit, for sure, but just too much contrast .. as I judge a 'Dark' Layout. Very early now, so I'll watch how things evolve.

Thanks for fine work on this Theme! I expect you will continue to get strong support.

Regards,

Thanks! But, I'm no themer... Just playing around with White Tie's handiwork to suit my taste. Imperial lives up to its name!

I'm not sure if I'm understanding you correctly... You can change the mixer and track backgrounds to any color you want. You can even change the default silver track and mixer background to any color you want in the Theme Development Tweaker in the actions menu.

This is very interesting. Nice job.

I have a question. How do you control the percentage of color that comes through on TCP & MCP?

This looks nice. Do you have all the layouts implemented from nitpicky for mcp and tcp?

For light / low saturation colors for the flat themes I used this site...

http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html

Just popped in a color I liked (RGB 115 130 150) and it gave me a bunch of other related colors.

Yes, I like Sidebar layouts, too... But, couldn't get used to them being on the left side of the track in the V5 default.

I'm well aware of ability to tweak, but my perspective is: Dark-is-Dark
The much lighter Silver/Grey shade just jumps out even more with the excellent Dark Theme.

I feel I understand your approach and can act accordingly. Your work is great and I appreciate so much being done to ease individuals' job to personalize.

Yes, REAPER is a great flexible tool and all of the talented people who freely share their technical knowledge and art make it even better!

I'm just a noob tweaker learning just enough to satisfy my curiosity...

Now back to making music! B)

12/15/15 Added Separator (blank panel) layouts to TCP & MCP.

*I changed a track to the Separator layout in the TCP & MCP, named it Separator in the Track Manager and saved it as a track template. When I select it from the track templates it loads and comes up in the Track Manager as a Separator. No more wondering where my missing track numbers are... B)

12/21/15 Edited the background of TCP / MCP folder images to match the darker theme background.

Fixed TCP meters in the Standard / Compact layouts (left meter was wider than right meter).

Changed the TCP / Master TCP width center line color to match the MCP width center line color.

Probably other minor changes... Uploaded new versions.

***12/22/15 Another update to come ASAP to correct inconsistencies with the folder alignment setting between layouts in the TCP /Master TCP / ENVCP. Also, tweaking ENVCP margins (alignment) to match TCP layouts where possible...

I haven't downloaded and tried this yet, but let me just ask here. If I open the midi editor, will I be greeted with nice colors, or am I going to see a blinding white background?

***EDIT*** I don't mean to sound like a smartass, hope it didn't come across that way. Over and over and over I see these beautiful themes and get excited about them, only to find out that nobody ever does any tweaking to the midi editor. What you have here looks awesome, I just don't want to download it if the midi editor is untouched. Thanks!

No problem! I understand where you're coming from... Actually made me laugh! But, I haven't done much tweaking to the midi editor. I don't use it very often and record midi like I record audio. Often record output as audio...

I don't imagine it would be too difficult to change the midi editor colors to your liking in the Theme Tweaker?

The default V5 midi editor doesn't look too bad to me (I think I changed some colors...) but if I spent a lot of time in there I might have a different opinion....

No it's not that difficult, and I have to do it in almost every theme I try. I've been using Default Commala 3 for a long time. It already had the MIDI editor tweaked and has a nice dark background. I still changed it a bit, but it's just a real shock to open that thing up in almost every other theme and it's as white as snow. Lol, I hate it!
Anyway, I'm very happy with the theme I use and even more so now that I have it set up the way I like it. But I do like to change things up from time to time. So I might try yours and get the MIDI editor dialed in the way I like it. Nice work, btw. I don't think I'd have the patience to tweak everything like some of you guys do.

The Commala versions are great!

If you do tweak the MIDI editor let me see your version!

It all starts with... Let me just learn how to change this little... Then, the more you learn / understand, the more you want to change. It's a slippery slope... Can be both frustrating and addictive.

But, I'm done tweaking for now unless I find an issue or problem...

I hear ya.....I don't know how many weeks I lost when I figured out how to make my own custom actions, then when I learned how to add them to toolbars it was all a big blur! This damn program is a blessing and a curse all at the same time. Sometimes too tweakable in my opinion. I love it but when I get to messing around with customizing, I forget what tune I was even working on.

***EDIT*** I still use the Commala version 3. The versions after that have those annoying staggered tracks when they're in folders. I can't get that to grow on me. He made me a version without that and I use it. He also made me a version of the new theme minus the staggered tracks, but it wasn't the dark version. I'll wait until he does that then I might update. I love dark themes!

Yes, REAPER is amazing but the tweaking can get in the way of making music. For me it's a nice escape when I'm not feeling well enough to record... At least it's music-related! Having the ability to tweak the program that helps you make music is awesome!

Good luck!
