Default Links to additional Video processor presets

Hi everyone,

in this thread we gather all the great Video processor presets made by users. To make them more public and to bring them in the right context. Please don't use this thread to post new presets. If you have an idea or already have coded something, open a new thread to keep it tidy.

BUT if you find a post somewhere in the forums with useful code you can add the link and a short description in here.

At first a short tutorial: Video processor presets are written in Reapers eel programming language. To create a new preset, you have to insert code into the video processor window.

1. Add the video processor in the FX chain of your video track

2. Copy the code (completely!) from the forums post and past it into the clean window. (If you already have code in there just select it all with ctrl+a and delete it.)

3. Important! Take care the Video processor window is in focus. Then press ctrl+s or ⌘+s (apple save shortcut?) to save the preset temporarily. This activates/updates the code but doesn't create a preset!

4. Press the + sign in the menu and choose -> Save preset. Give it a proper name and you can load it from there every time you open Video processor in the future.

That's it. And now lets start with the links.

In particular I was confused about command-S/"save" and how that was apparently activating the changes but not permanently saving them, as it would with JSFX audio plugins. Using the + button to actually save a new preset was an extremely simple-but-not-obvious answer I've been looking for for embarrassingly too long!

(How were we supposed to know or guess that? I never saw it in the video tutorial that I printed out and scoured through. I guess it's more akin to saving the settings on a plugin rather than saving the plugin itself.)

That's why I wrote the tutorial in the first post of this thread. I knew that many people would lose their interest if they don't get into this. There are some discussions about how to make it easier but video is not in the main focus of Reaper and maybe never will step up to a more user friendly being.

Default Video Processing Vertical Wipe top down

Is this already possible with one of the presets already in reaper? I can only get the vertical wipe to come in from the bottom and I need it to come in from the top.
Any tips, tricks or pointers is appreciated.

Hi Birdbrain,

just open a new thread in the forums video section to ask your question. This thread is only for links to other video preset threads. You will get the answer for sure.

Default Lots more features in my new YouTube on how to make a Virtual Choir/Band in Reaper

You can now have big video in the grid, or expanded videos infront of or behind the gird and use automation etc.

I wrote some code that lets you overlay a guitar chord grid on the video. Good for instructional videos.

Beware, if you make any changes to the code in between steps 3 and 4, those changes will be lost! So when I code, I make a habit of doing ctrl-S right before I save to a preset.

Also, if you close the FX window, or look at another effect in the same window, or do anything at all that causes you to lose sight of your code, you will lose any changes you've made since the last ctrl-S.

Yes, that's a very important hint. Especially if you change code and switch to another plugin code without saving with ctrl+s. In this case you really lose anything you did after the last saving.

I think most people just don't get into the video processor because of its really awkward structure and behaving. But if you open your heart, you will love the stray dog after a certain time of pain.

Ah, very poetic

Another awkward thing: You're testing your code, going back and forth from the video window to the editing window. You think you're editing your video effect, and you hit the delete key a few times. But the cursor focus is on the FX window not the edit window. Delete can remove the entire video effect, and your code disappears! The solution is to immediately hit control-Z to undo the deletion. But you still lose eveerything since your last control-S.

Yet another pitfall -- sometimes you have to hit ctrl-S twice before it saves. And of course if there's a typo in the code making an error, it won't save at all. Moral of the story is, slow down and take a second after your control-S to make sure it actually saved!

Default Video "Spectrum Analyser" (eye candy)

vitalker asked if I'd post this here.

It's a visualisation thing that does its audio "heavy lifting" in a separate jsfx and pushes (in this case) spectrum analysis, via gmem, to a Video Processor preset.

(overlay uses the VP image overlay preset)

See posts 6 & 7 here:

Default Overlay video with l/r/t/b controls

A tweaked version of the 'image overlay' preset. This allows you to overlay a chosen rectangle from within a video, instead of always overlaying the entire video.

Copy the code from here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=251428

Helpful tip: If you ever need to migrate your custom video presets from one mac to another, just copy this file:

Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/REAPER/presets/builtin_video_processor.ini

You could possibly use this file to give someone a whole bunch of presets at once, but it would unfortunately overwrite whatever presets they already had.

Multi-line text overlay, for putting a whole paragraph of text on the screen. Also does colored text.

Default Overlay: text with better & adjustable outline/shadow

Hi folks,

I made yet another incarnation of the text overlay preset but this version has a unique new feature: the outline and shadow effects are fully ajustable. Here are the detail in this thread

- update 02-16-2022: along with bug fixes the preset now handles shadow transparency. Just make sure to use v2.23.
- update 03-04-2022: code was assuming a media with RGBA color space, official version is now v2.23b

Default debug console

Video presets can be difficult to debug and writing text to the video output window is not ideal. You can find a basic debugging console in this thread:

Default Auto inner/outer frame

Here is a collection of two presets to automatically add a frame around the outer/inner edge of a picture/video item as discussed in this thread https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=267142. This preset must be applied at the item level.

For a more generic frame type, follow this other thread: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread....08#post2073008
