Default Monitors - Should I use a High Pass?

Hey everyone,

Quick question. My monitors roll-off at about 50Hz. Would it be wise to place a High Pass on the master at around 50Hz?

I could have sworn I read that somewhere in the past... but you know the internet.. It's hard to know who's right and wrong.

It appears to clean things up bit when I'm mixing, but before I commit to this, I want to make sure I'm not letting myself fall in with the "engineering mythology" folks

Thanks!

It's quite common to roll of on almost all tracks below 40-50 Hz so as not to have dynamic processors react to the energy rich low-freq content.

So yes, it clears things up when mixing. No matter what monitors you own. Some instruments/tracks can be rolled off on higher freq's giving even more space.

ps. I know a dance producer who swears to having a slight peak at exactly 48 Hz on kick and / or sub-bass. Dunno if he's right, not my genre. But he's quite successful

I agree, high-passing each track is pretty necessary. I was just wondering if I should put an HP on the master, too.

Now that I think about it, it probably wouldn't matter much since I'm already high-passing each track.

Thanks

whoops. Didn't catch your Q about the master track.

Sloppy reading by me, sorry.
