Default Alternative to WASAPI Shared Loopback for recording 'outside' audio?

I'm using the WASAPI Shared Loopback driver to record audio from my PC (from Chrome) into Reaper however once recorded, I notice lots of pops & clicks in the audio. I've tried lowering the Buffer to 1024 and don't mind going even lower since I have no need for low latency here but I don't think that's going to solve the problem since 1024 seems like already a large buffer.

Is there any other method for recording streaming audio from outside the DAW into Reaper?
Or is there a trick for stopping these clicks & pops when using the WASAPI driver?
Thx!

My preferred method is a loopback cable from stereo out, to stereo line in.
