Default Noob question reaper + interface

Hello,

I am new to reaper and to working with a DAW+audio interface so sorry in advance for the idiotic question.

I am wondering how recording works when you use an audio interface to record in reaper.

How does the signal get translated to wav or digital format and which does what ?

My guess is the audio interface AD converters convert the signal to digital and reaper convert the digital signal to the format you choosed.

So next question is : the quality of the digitized signal depends on your audio-interface ADC right ?

Thanks for enlighting me,
tapx

Well, it's not just the AD converters.

Anything can affect the quality of the signal (and more can affect the quality of the sound - e.g the room you record in - or the quality of what you hear - e.g the room you monitor in and what you monitor using).

thanks for the link that's very usefull.

In my case I plug my acoustic guitar in the audio interface.

So the quality of the digitized signal depends on the guitar microphone and the audio interface (preamp + A2D converters).

The computer is only here to store the sound in a digital format (of course there could be additional sound treatment but let's keep it simple).

Hi tapx and welcome.

As far as I can see you are right. If you want to know more about the AD|DA process this is the video that is most often suggested. It's a bit technical naturally but really well done:
