Default How can I alternate time signatures easily?

I often write songs where I want, for example, one measure of 6/8 and one measure of 8/8, or whatever. And I typically end up just punching in 7/8 because it's a pain in the ass to set every measure. Except then the metronome's accenting is off.

Ideally, I'd like to copy and paste time signature markers, but maybe I'm going about this the wrong way?

Hmm, I do the exact same thing, I often insert a new time sig every bar too.
But i do find it REALLY annoying that if I use pre-roll, I get the tempo and time sig of the 2 bars before my punch point - which makes it pretty hard for me to be ready for the jump to the new time.

If you know where the time signatures need to go beforehand you could make your own quantized click track and not use the metronome (if you dont mind not having the pre-roll).

If you really make timesig changes on EVERY measure, you can try making a custom action like this:

Action name: Insert new tempo/time signature at every measure

* Move edit cursor to start of current measure
* Action: Set action loop start
* Markers: Insert time signature/tempo change marker at edit cursor
* Move edit cursor to start of next measure
* Action: Prompt to go to action loop start

And check "Consolidate undo points".

Then you'll be able to do what you want a bit faster. After every new timesig change, you'll be prompted to repeat the action. You click on "Yes", and type the new timesig/tempo for the next measure. If you don't want to change anything for that measure, you just click on "Cancel" in the Insert Time Signature Marker screen, and continue to loop.

I have this bound to Ctrl+Shift+Alt+C.

Hey thanks ED, what would really help the workflow is for the time sig markers to be copy/pasted. If I make 1 bar 6/8 and the next say 7/8, I'd like to be able to copy the two bars including the time sig change and paste them in multiple times.

btw, you've got that many actions mapped?

Yeah, I have quite a lot actions mapped somewhere. Probably not AS much as some other powerusers...

I suppose this is probably a case of newer feature vs older thread, but for the sake of anyone else who google brings here, it looks like you can copy-paste time signature changes now:
