Add 1/8 and 1/16 notes to the metronome
Hi, can you add 1/8 and 1/16 notes to the metronome pls? Drummers often ask for more than 1/4 click. It takes a very long time to make several click tracks for 1/16, drummers do not like to wait more than 5 seconds

This has been asked 15+ times by many people (including myself) over the last decade and has always been massively ignored by the devs...

You could use 8/8 or 16/16 time signature to get that. Doing so would, of course, totally hose up the staff notation of a 4/4 song.

Especially if the song already exists. Screws up the MIDI files. It also screws up your tempo synced effects. Simply not a viable option.

Nice that this thread exists. Maybe it's another time to bump it kindly.
I'd also see some more options to not only have A, B, T and . - but maybe also some new characters for 1/8 etc.!

you could use a click track instead. generate various click source items and move them as needed and mix them. it could work

Very difficult when you have multiple tempos. Also, click source won't get exported in a SMF. So if you have a section of a cue that you want to be half note click, that would not be notated or marked anywhere.

Thanks for the tip, but it wouldn't be the kind of workflow I am heading for. I had to create a new track (could be done with track template, I know) and I had to programm a sequence for every new project AND I had to loop this track manually to the length of the piece. If the length would change, I had to re-edit the length. Also it would behave odd, when trying to mute the click track or not. Right now I have a shortcut for the metronome muting on my masterkeyboard ... overall it just feels not right and very clumsy to me to have some kind of metronome with the click track method, which I do not like after all.

Agreed - very clumsy workaround. And there shouldn't need to be a workaround. This is basic functionality in my mind.....

I was so excited when I saw that there was an update to the metronome, only to realize that it still lacks subdivisions...
This is a much needed feature

+1. this was the first thing my vocalist asked for when I set her up with reaper - "how-to make metronome faster?"
I couldn't solve it for her, other than to tell her to use double tempo (like I do because of legacy projects doubling ppq in the MPC series). even though this works for me, it is not a serious option to recommend to others.
later, she installed Ableton live and instantly found her desired metronome speed.

Im always amazed at how reaper can do so many amazing out of the box thinking stuff but at the same time fail to do the most basic stuff...
Here´s hoping we have subdivisions some time before 2030...

Metronome
I'm not a musician by any means. I can strum a few cords on a guitar. I've never used a metronome for anything. I was just curious. Do real metronomes have 1/8 or 1/16 note settings?

While you wait:
Insert click source, uncheck follow project tempo, quadruple the tempo in the click source only.

I often have to set the TS to 2x/8 and 4x/16 to give musicians subdivisions on a metronome. This works as a clumsy workaround, but really there's no excuse to forgo such a basic feature. Having metronome subdivisions would be so in line with Reaper's customizability ethic.

It would be perfect for drummers.
I know the devs are busy but if you're watching this please consider implementing this.

(DONE)
+ add option to reduce count in from 8 clicks to 4.
how are you folks waiting so long?? again, i'm using double tempo, so i'm at 4-equivalent. i tried to switch to "normal" tempo, but wow, it takes so long for the recording to start.

Indeed, I've tried to find a way to get a simple AaAaAAa for 7/8 bars. no way to avoid that nonsense triplets or nonsene AaAa nothing for the rest of the bar.
it's possible to get a custom clic with a MIDI track and samplomatic5k..

Yes, as workaround I use click track with a sequencer on it and with sws action "toggle click track mute", but it can't match the preference to toggle metronome off while playback. And to make count-in from start of measure you are forced to render click as a stem and place it before start and toggle click track...
So, I always need think for a perspective to avoid such corner cases.

I’d like this feature to be implemented, but seems like there’s no hope.
I’ll keep using the free MMetronome for the time being

A quick and dirty trick that works is to put a JS Delay plug on the click track and setup your divisions there.
Might not be what to OP wanted but it gets the job done when you need it.

Hey folks,
since v6.39 there is a multipier option for the metronome! So something is improving with the metronome here, yay. (-;
