Default Importing a track with a different sample rate

Sorry for asking a question that might have been asked a thousand times, but I am having a surprisingly hard time finding a clear answer to this question.

I have song project that is in 44.1 kHz / 24 bit (standard settings for me).

Another musician is sending me a track that I will be importing into my project. However, it will be in 48 kHz / 24 bit.

Will Reaper automatically know what to do if I import a track (wav file) that has a different sample rate, or are there steps I need to follow to convert the 48 kHz to 44.1 so that it will work with my song project?

Collaborating on projects remotely with other musicians is something I have not yet attempted at this point. So please, if you have the answer, "speak as you might to a young child...or a golden retriever" (name that movie).

Thanks!

Reaper will automatically convert it during playback - it shouldn't be anything for you to worry about (unless it's a very taxing project, as real-time sample rate conversion can munch your CPU)

Margin Call.

You will notice a new information symbol appearing in your DAW next to your 48 kHz media - a little blue square with an "i" in it.

Don't panic.

(Name that book.)

Quality of the 'on the fly' sample rate conversion is set in the Project Settings window. Note the options for resampling.

You may see posts talking about a better conversion codec than Reaper has: Sox. If you wanted to be truly anal about it (even though you really can't hear anything wrong with Reaper conversion), you could download XLD (X Loss Decoder) app. It uses Sox for sample rate conversion. A really convenient format conversion app in general too.

Right click the track, select render/freeze.
The out put will be your projects sample rate.
