4500+ Uncomposited Icons
8.3.2018 - Been away for awhile. Couple issues with the link or pkg here and there.
Took old copies down.
Went through the .PDF to make sure info still relevant and accurate
against paths, image lists @ SDK, etc.(as relevant and accurate as said info could be
given my magnetism toward the unproffesional).
Created new .rar's from original project material.
Uploaded new package
UPDATED THE LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST TO REFLECT THE NEW UL's.
1.2.2017 - Updated package. Now over 4500 icons. Now a two-part .RAR
archive. Added over 1000 icons from HOPI - ALL of his custom icons
including some that were not available to anyone until now. Also included
a collection of HOPI .PSD templates for the creation of custom icons
in Photoshop. THANX HOPI!! See below for DL link. Be sure to get both parts.
-Never
12.3.2016 - Updated package. Now over 3500 icons. Updated .PDF; Thanx to DarkStar for reminding me to
add info about placing icons in the REAPER program file directory.
11.16.2016 - Updated package. Now over 3000 icons. 35 new icons added designed by me for
my ION3 theme.
I put together a package of all of the uncomposited icons on the stash as a resource for dev use. These are just the 'shapes';
the illustrations on sliced transparencies so that you can make your own buttons.
Hopefully this will help people create icon sets which maintain the
graphical continuity of their themes. It seems like one had to go to
so many different places to get icons, and you never really know what
your getting till you download and extract. Here you are getting stock stuff
you can use, and it's thorough.
At minimum it will save hours searching and DL'ing assembling the
collection. You need Winrar.
Best,
Never

Part 2 of 2

All credits are given in the .rar/folder names.
If you were involved in development of any of these and I missed your
name, PM me and I will give you credit. Thx.

Good work :clap clap:
TIP:
I have my my uncomposited images in ...\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\Data\toolbar_icons and toolbar_blank.png in my theme's folder.
That way, when you change from one theme to another the same icons can be used. There is need to edit the images in each theme.

Thank you for adding that I didn't think about it until I finished the pdf
and zipped the pkg. There are the uncomposited color icons from HOWT in the
REAPER or REAPERx64'\Install Data\Data\Toolbar Icons\' Folder. [PC]
And as Dark Star said placing any icons in the 'c:\username\AppData\Roaming\REAPER or REAPERx64\Data\Toolbar_Icons\' folder will allow you to use them with ALL of your themes. [PC]
Maybe someone could chime in with the MAC equivalent folders.
Thanx Dark Star

@HOPI...thank you so much for your hard work...and I mean...long, tedious,
monotonous, repetitive, carpal-tunnel inducing, hard work creating all
of these awesome icons. I obviously DL'd the files you sent and included the
icons and .PSD files in the library, now giving everyone 4500+ icons and
templates to work with. Thanx again!

Can't figure it out how to use this tip with a portable install.
The icons of a chosen theme seem to persist even if I copy my icons to the Reaper\Color Themes or \Data folder.

Has anybody used this method of icon retention with a portable install?

@carbon: It works with portable. The toolbar icons have to be in: "X:\Your portable folder\Data\toolbar_icons"

Hmmm, should I also unpack the *.ReaperThemeZip and delete the toolbar icons in that? Seems Reaper won't use the icons in the \toolbar_icons.

Hm, works here. They should be at the bottom or the top of the icons palette that opens when you want to choose another icon for a toolbar button. Are you sure you copied them in the right folder?

No.
|
I copied them there:
C:\Portable\REAPER 5\Data\toolbar_icons
This is the folder that seems to come up when I customize a toolbar and start to choose custom icons.
At the top of this icon list though are the theme's main toolbar icons.
And the theme seems to get them still from it's own file/folder:
C:\Portable\REAPER 5\ColorThemes\Janne2016II
All the other icons that I copy there are visible, but not the main toolbar ones.

Hey carbon,
maybe I missunderstood you...
You want to have the same toolbar icons for specific buttons, no matter what theme you use? But not the default one?
If yes, you have to rename the toolbar icons you want to use.
I try to explain that: the themes use the icons inside of them. If a theme does not have an own designed icon, REAPER uses its own default one.
Let's take the "Open project..." button from the main toolbar as an example: the icon is called "toolbar_open.png". If you copy this icon from a different theme and do not rename it, it is not shown in the "icon palette". Now rename it to e.g. "toolbar_open_carbon.png" (keep the "toolbar" in the name to avoid confusion) and it will show up. Use it, save your toolbar and the icon will used, no matter what theme you load...
And your "C:\Portable\REAPER 5\..." folder must be the one where the portable reaper.exe is.
I hope this helps this time...
Peter

OK, I think I get it. In order to keep my icons constant on the main toolbar no matter what theme, I have to change them to icon files with names that differ from the default.
As usually themes come with at least their own main toolbar icons that use the default names.
Probably made it sound more difficult than you did
Will try it at home.
Thanks.

This makes it possible for the themer to create his own icons that then load at the right position. But not all themes have their own icons (e.g. the one in my signature )

I DL'd both part 1 & 2 at the stash, placed them in the same folder,
double clicked part 1, clicked extract, and both parts were successfully
extracted to a folder where ALL 25 Libraries and tutorial were contained.
This must be done with Winrar, etc., as Windows' click through method of
manipulating .zip files doesn't work correctly on multi-part
.zip's (to my knowledge). This type of file is necessary because of
the stash's data cap. If your resulting file was only 12k when you DL'd
the package, there was obviously a problem in the download process.
Try from another computer.

I found this while looking for toolbar icons that I could use to match several different themes I've settled on. I understand that the BG can be changed for a vast majority of icons to match themes better, but color of the icons themselves, if used, must be done manually. I also understand that a handful of core icons (about 38) are composited to a BG that can't be changed without editing the PNG. Is my understand correct?
If so, I did see in N3V3Rs list the 01-Default V5 Composited Examples Set, but was wondering if these are the full set of composited icons, or are there others. I'm looking for a list of the ones Reaper expects to be composited as I go about building my icon set.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Also, MUCH THANKS to N3V3R for the work he (and others) put into pulling this fantastic list together.

The color can be batched in say Photoshop, etc ysing hue/sat sliders and accomplished in record time. Input to batch processing from 1 folder, output to another,
That way you can experiment.
As for the rest, well, that PDF is old and not up snuff for the purposes of modern icon set creation. There is no substitute for actually learning how REAPER layers images...the compositing...always with the compositing. And there are loads more of what i termed 'core' icons nowadays because of things being added all the time, such as the icons for media explorer. My advice is to unpack the default 6 theme from the latest download and work off of those icons. Get a feel for the way REAPER handles compositing, and play around with translucent color blocks so you can see what is happening in real time. (More on this in WT's themer's guide.) At this point the 4500+ is just an incomplete resource, but there are some good icons in there. You can also search the stash and forum for 'icons'.
