Default Trackpad swiping

Hi folks,

I'm not sure whether what I see is the intended behavior, but I was expecting that vertical two-finger swiping over the arrangement window to pan/scroll accordingly. Instead, I get horizontal zoom in/out, as if the trackpad sends scroll wheel events. Swiping vertically over the track headers does the trick, just as mouse scrolling used to.

Is there any way to use swiping strictly for panning/scrolling in the arrangement window? I'd rather use the pinch gesture to zoom in and out.

Thanks guys.

Go to menu at the top of the window:
Actions > Show actions list...
write "horizontally" in the filter, click the action "View: scroll horizontally
(MIDI CC relative/mousewheel)", click "Add..." in the lower left corner, and
swipe left or right with two fingers on the trackpad.

do the same for "vertically" with vertical swipe.

You now have standard OSX scrolling behavior in reaper arranger.

Do the same for MIDI Editor by checking "MIDI Editor" section in the top
right corner of action list.

You can map any mouse gestures and keyboard shortcuts the same way.

BTW, there are annual discussions that this should be the default behavior, at
least for OSX, but since Reaper design was based on Vegas, the scrolling zooms.

Hope it helps

Eric, you're the man! Thanks! I've been using Reaper quite a lot for a year or so, but never fiddled with the GUI.

Is there a way to get Reaper understand trackpad pinching gestures for zoom in/out?

I tried it but all i get is multizoom when i add a gesture for either one...

I've just noticed that, while the vertical scrolling behavior is standard, horizontal scrolling works just like on the iPod/iPad. So, in addition to Eric's suggestion, perhaps you guys would like to map horizontal scrolling in reverse.

Does anybody know how to get trackpad-like zooming with a mouse?
Like for instance in Logic when you hold Opt and drag the mouse with the middle click button pressed down.

wow... this post was from 2012 and I'm trying to figure this stuff out in 2019. T'would be nice if the default trackpad/touchscreen multitouch behaviour was consistent both with most other apps and within Reaper itself. I know you can customise and can learn to deal with anything, but if Reaper is 1% of your computer usage having to adapt again after a month away is brain-frying. I would have expected:

* two finger up/down: scroll vertically (in any window)
* two finger left/right: pan horizontally (in any window)
* pinch/spread vertically: zoom vertically (e.g. track heights, midi editor )
* pinch/spread horizontally: zoom horizontally.

I'm not sure if my terminology is correct there, but surely that makes sense? If a window has scroll bars then that's what I'd expect, and even after a session of work I'm still intuitively doing the wrong thing....I just can't help it! -switching to the documentation PDF or a Browser windows then back to Reaper means changing how I scroll windows each time, which surely is enough to drive anyone bonkers.

[I'd like to mention that thanks to "dazzathedrummer" at least I've been able to configure this to be less painful, using "CTRL" as the modifier for zooming and any other trackpad/touchscreen swipe as scrolling H/V; I'm just suggesting what I think might be happier defaults]

PS. Is there any way to assign a horizontal "pinch/expand" trackpad/touchscreen gesture to an action, e.g. for horizontal zooming?
