When Windows 7 SP1 was released, IT guys went mad, because Virus Scanners and several other software was suddenly incompatible. And when Windows 8 came out, several hardware needed new drivers.
So it's out of question, that I need a fallback strategy as an early adopter, no matter if Windows or OSX.

The problem is, that Pro Tools is still considered the pro studio standard. But times are changing. Especially the gaming industry seems to become interested in Reaper. For latest Far Cry 4 Ubisoft switched from Pro Tools to Reaper:

We're on the right track

For a DAW company to still be that hardware specific in 2015 and still require very expensive (and VERY low bang for the buck in 2015) proprietary hardware (Protools is still only truly stable with Digi hardware) - when apps like Reaper are now available that work with almost any hardware and run on everything from PPC OSX thru the latest 10.10 (and even Windows!).
Pretty hard sell nowadays I think.

Coming from my perspective of having only ever seriously used one DAW, Reaper, it hard for me to understand how anyone who uses ProTools can seriously want to use it.
From my point of view, one would have to have ones fingers firmly planted in ones ears, in order to still use ProTools.

It's still pretty sad, but I honestly only get involved in these threads when I read silly things about hardware or an OS. So counter argument happens to be one sided by nature.

You are talking of rare, inevitable events which are clearly almost always rectified or we wouldn't be able to run software from 20 years ago vs a history of breaking stuff in point releases that are obviously at a greater frequency than the near annual updates and having developers scrambling to fix things on OSX.

I don't think so ... without wanting to be offensive, but that sounds like a fanboy argument.
Let's try to see it more objective. I have the impression, that both, MS and Apple, didn't succeed so far to compensate the loss of Gates and Jobs. And both OSs have pros and cons, e.g. a missing software manager on OSX or the new ribbon and start menus in Office and Windows, that the majority hate. That are only two examples of many others.
What I find interesting is, that Linux covers more and more ground in the audio and photo / video department. But that is a different story

A bit off topic, but Linux:
Right now the distributions I try seem to be where windows and apple were about ten to fifteen years ago.
Worse maybe on the pro audio side.
So at the moment I suspect Linux WILL get there as a desktop users OS, but I probably wont live long enough to see it.
Shame - I started out with Unix-influenced OS'es back in the early eighties, having used CP/M prior to that.
Love me some Unixery!

The problem is, there are to many different distros out there. When I first saw Ubuntu Studio in 2008 it looked promising, but you're right, now 7 years later not that much happened. But I see, that a few vendors nowadays also support Linux here and there.

They usually have nice hardware, but they have the reputation, that their support is not the best.
I would also advise to check Asus forums for the desired model. I was interested in the G751 and found hints about serious latency problems, that are still unsolved as it seems.

No matter what laptop you get, do some serious research, (Pro and especially Con's) about the model. they all have their little quirks and it pays to be informed before purchase!
