Default 5.12/i386 Render Error (SOLVED)

Hello All, i'm experiencing something strange. I've had a go on the forum and it seems that issue is just my system but its disabled my reaper in my laptop.

The problem is that reaper doesn't render correctly.
Processing outcomes that involve rendering are effectively silent (including glueing). Playback is fine in the session but renders are bad. No error dialogs. I almost wish i was just doing something wrong, as embarrassing as that may be.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a new project.
2. place a .WAV file in (have also trie .aiff)
3. then export it out using your method.

or

1.Open a new project.
2. place a .WAV file in
3. Use the glue process to create another file.

With either of these processes the waveforms themselves loose a lot of detail visually, and are effectively silent.

OS: OS X 10.8.5
Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Reaper Version: 5.12/i386 (32bit)

What do people reckon? Is this a bug?
I've included a link to a dropbox which has a working session if its useful.
I've done each of the processes I outlined above.

Thanks!

Hah, figured it out, and it's a pretty funny (innocent) mistake: your project settings (it must be your default project template if you're seeing this on all new projects) is set to a sample rate of 48. Not 48k, i.e. 48000, but 48! :-)

So when you render it's only able to produce frequencies up to 24 Hz, hence the near-silence. If you zoom in on the audio, the "loss of detail" is because samples at a sample rate of 48 are ~21ms apart. :-)

I think the sample rate debates are largely a waste of time, but I'll have to agree that 48 is too low. :-)
