Two basic newbieland questions.
A couple of starting questions as I’m in my first week of trialling Reaper.
I have a practice project open with only two tracks. The first is an audio track of guitar with an amp sim as FX. The second track is a virtual MIDI instrument (drums) with a drum sim as FX and also ReaEQ as the second FX on that track.
If I close Reaper down and restart, the first track with the audio is fine, but the MIDI track doesn’t play at all, even though the notes and FX settings are intact. However, if I create a third track with virtual MIDI instrument, and simply set up my FX for this new third track from scratch, then just drag the MIDI items from track two down to track three, I’m back up and running again and the sound now plays just as it did before I closed Reaper. But what am I doing wrong for Reaper to not save or play back my track two MIDI setup in the first place?
Second question.
I’m using a Scarlett Focusrite Solo interface. To monitor sound from it, there is a ¼ headphone jack which I can plug into, but I’m using a headset with 1/8 connector with an adaptor to ¼. The problem is, when I’m working within Reaper, I only get mono sound—fiddling with the connection switches it from one ear to another sporadically, but I don’t get stereo. However, when I quit Reaper and use the same hardware setup for listening to desktop audio it’s fine. I can also switch back out of the interface and just use the computer’s sound card when back inside Reaper to listen to the tracks in stereo. Am I using wrong settings in Reaper, or is this a mistake I’m making with hardware?

Question 1- no idea- should save, then reload exactly the same.
Question 2: Options/Preferences/Audio/Device.
Use Asio if possible, then under Output Range, check that all your outputs are selected from first to last.
If still not working, go to your master track, click IO, check that the correct 'audio hardware outputs' are selected. If not, adjust.

I haven't purchased Reaper yet, only on trial. What things are disabled in the trial version?
Also might have narrowed there problem down. This interface has two interfaces. One is for the mic, one is for a guitar jack. The guitar jack is input 2. I have to specify 'Enable inputs' and 'Output range' in audio device settings all as '2' for the signal to even come through.

Thanks guys. Actually resolved the playback issue, I hadn't selected the right output channels in the preferences. My bad.
As for the drums not loading up. It could be an issue to do with MT-PowerDrumKit? Maybe it doesn't load up automatically each time until you make a donation. It's a free plugin.

From memory I think MT-PowerDrumKit is inaudible until you click to say you want to continue the trial. Worth checking I guess.
