Default Reaper Totally Broken after setting up my nucleus.

I have been using reaper for a little while off and on. I recently bought a nucleus and decided to see how well they worked together. I set it up the way it says in ssl's manual and now reaper wont even open. It opens but freezes at the first screen.

Please help. I would love to switch Im still trying to makes the jump!!

Can you try deleting reaper-midihw.ini in User/Application Support/REAPER and if that doesn't help, renaming the entire folder (so REAPER has to create everything from scratch)? I assume it's recognized properly in Audio MIDI Setup, does it work in PT? What do you mean by "set it up the way it says in SSL's manual", did that include anything to set in REAPER?

Hey it works great in protools.

What i mean by setting in up the way it say in the manual is that I used MCU and MCU extended an then rebooted what folder should i rename?

Hey so that totally worked as far as being able to open reaper again!

but now the nucleus is pretty much a big paper weight.

I can use it to bring us tracks faders. But it automatically resets them to zero

I also have no idea how to control sends and have no transport controls?

So transport works. The pan and faders seem to to be working as well as mute solo and record arm. Now im trying to get sends and sends flippable and plugin control.

Let me know if you have any ideas im dying to mix a new song i tracked in protools in reaper to see if its lighter on my comp.

I cannot get reaper to act as a rewire client for protools at all. I get a connection error. This is bumming me out. Im really trying to work reaper into my mixing and every time I feel like I find something new a useful I hit a fucking brick wall.

I apologize for swearing. Im new to the forums and dont know if it is against the rules. I love your product I just want to make it work well for me so I can become a full time adopter!

What exactly is the error message, or which part(PT? OSX? REAPER?) is sending it?

It would be more beneficial for you if you'd describe what exactly you tried where etc. and where exactly you get stuck in more detail. Otherwise people often don't even know what they could ask you in order to find that out.

As for your send problem, I'm not sure but this could be a problem on OSX - REAPER's build-in MCU support is somewhat limited and the user-created csurf.dlls for the MCU protocol providing that functionality are not available for OSX. I may be wrong here though.

@ollie I wanted to thank you for your time and helping me through this, as far as brick wall i just mean something that interrupts my workflow to the point I stay with protools.

So no send control with MCU is what im picking up?

When I insert the reaper plugin in protools reaper pops up, says initializing rewire slave mode and than closes. Then a window in protools opens and says that it cannot establish a connection.

Did you install REAPER 32 or 64 bit? If 64-bit, could you try the other one instead? ReWire 64-bit is quite new and I don't even know if and how that works when trying to rewire that into 32 bit PT.

What is your OSX version?

I think that the state of MCU support is a big question here. As I recall, Mackie was not forthcoming with the SDK so the support in Reaper was basically revese-engineered, and somewhat incomplete. I thought that Mackie was later going to send the info but I don't know if they ever did.

I've only followed this on and off over the past few years, so I don't claim to know everything. Maybe one of the dev team can chime in on this? Is MCU support still unfinished?

Alas I'm a bit out of ideas, I can't find a reference to a similar problem with Rewire and PT in the forum, if it shows up it seems to work. However, whenever something strangely doesn't work on OSX people seem to recommend repairing disk permissions and checking the system for corrupted plist files.

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10331328-263.html

Someone mentioned clearing PT's preferences fixed a REAPER+Rewire problem for him, you could also try the same with REAPER (by renaming it's 'resource folder', which is Application Support/REAPER).

Also, bump!
