The mains transformer on my elderly ADA8000 just gave up the ghost largely due to my failing to check internally - the star earth had somehow worked loose enough that the unit didnt really have a proper internal star ground from circuit to chassis to mains.
Which means I am facing the same dilemma.
But assuming the diode prob with ADA8000s has been fixed, I am tempted to buy another one only new this time.
Say what you like they are inexpensive and they work.

I love using the ada8k's just to spite the fifi crowd. I'll probably end up getting some more of them...I could put them in the school system and use the focurite pres live too, lots of options here I guess

Pipe that is/was exactly my setup. An octopre and an ADA8000.
Worked like a charm and I never notice any lack of quality in my recordings that I could pin down to the Behri.
Seriously considering just buying a NEW ADA8000 and maybe seeing if I can find a replacement mains transformer for the dead on so I can use all three ADAT I/Os on my RME card.
I cant imagine ever needing to use 24 I/O simultaneously, but so long s it is cheap I m at heart a complete-ist. If I have the option I want to use it!

Did it come with crap drivers or something? I thought most of mackies stuff was at the very least the equivalent of Behringer.... i.e. not bad.
Mind you I expect a lot has changed since the Greg era finished....
may have to see if I can find one of them as well.
Holy shit! Studiospares has them for the equivalent of $1500!!!!!
That is a LOT of ADA8000s. In fact it is a lot of most of the other contenders.

No, it doesn't have drivers because it's not an interface.
It's a stand alone 8 channel a to d converter with mic pres.
I have one, and the pres are excellent as well as the converters.

Sorry - typed before thinking!
Did you really pay that much for it?
Or is this just another example of prices doubling as things cross the Atlantic?

ADAT is rock stable with the Focusright Liquid 56 and Octapre. Can't tell from your post which of the two best suits your needs.
Love at first byte here.

No problem. I think the list price in the US was $1200.00
I picked one up from a music store new for $800.00
The new behringer looks ok, the only thing I don't like about them is that the mic inputs are on the front.

Ha Ha chocolate and vanilla rides again!
I already have a focusrite Octopre and the one thing I don't like about it is the mic ins on the back. I made up an xlr panel to bring them all round the front.
And that part about the $1500 Mackie thing being $1200 and on sale at $800 shows just how much we miss out living in Europe.
And sadly an awful lot of stuff that originates in europe winds up cheaper to buy in the USA as well.
Doesnt seem right really, does it?
P.S. Uli announced shipping on the ADA8200 "by the end of the year" but didnt say WHICH year.
No price nnounced yet either as far as I know.

I'm running a liquid 56 and two octopre's at the school, its working well for this application, but its not something I'd want for the mobile setup I'm making for this purpose

FWIW department.
I PM'd Uli B on another forum and got a very quick positive response from him, helping me find the UK spares/service department.
Unfortuntely the UK spares department appears to be manned by the usual jobsworths who said that they didnt sell spares to the general public and in any case I had voided my warranty by opening the case of the ADA8000.
At this point I had not said whether or not I was an engineer, only that it was my on unit.
I had also said that I assumed the warranty had expired since the unit was date coded 0611.
Bunch of officious tossers a usual it seems.
In the event, I wound up getting a ff octopre LE with the digital card for £124 delivered on ebay, so I no longer require Behringers services.
Oh and the same idiot at behringer UK claimed there were NO reported problems regarding dodgy mains supply problems with the ADA8000 despite this being ll over the techie sites AND freely acknowledged by Uli himself in the same places.
Shame, as Uli seems like he actually gives a damn about his customers.

Gotta chime in here...
I'm looking for some more channel options in my home studio.
Pro engineer friend of mine suggested the Mackie Onyx 800R. I've read bad things about it, too, though.
Looked at the Behringer ADA8000.. seems like real bang for the buck.
What do you guys think, these days?
Focusrite? PreSonus?
I dunno....
It all makes my head spin.

The behringer 8k and 8k2 are rock solid and do what is expected from them.there is no need to pay more until ...
You want to use them with directly connected microphones.
The 8k has no good mic-preamps, which is not a problem when used behind a mixer. Behringer has replaced those in the 8k2 with their current Midas standard pres.

I am still on the 2 octopres, but would happily revert to Behri if I had to.
Unless you are one of the Golden Ears club, the quality is perfectly aceptable.

Maybe I'm one of the Golden Ears club, but for decent preamps and converters I wouldn't consider anything less than RME Octamic XTC.
