Any C++ folks want to take over Bodilizer?
Sorry if this is the wrong forum. We have so many good coders here I thought it would be worth a try:
I use & love the software "Bodilizer." Although not well known, it is indespensible for what I do, and basically unique in the industry.
http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=us
Sadly, it has a few major shortcomings, regarding the GUI & the librarian.
The guy who created it no longer has time to develop it further, and told me that if anyone wants it, he will give them the coding, ownership, etc for free.
What it is:
It's some sort of self-contained Convolution-based app that adds body resonance to guitars, violins, etc recorded via piezo pickups. It has a bunch of very useful IR's bundled in, which simply appear to the user as presets. Additionally, it has a number of extremely useful, post-IR controls, specifically geared towards guitar & violin.
Latency is basically non-existent.
Sure, you could use any convo-reverb, (I guess) but you'd have to find your own IR's, and you wouldn't have the nifty & convenient parameter controls.
This is like a software version of the Fishman Aura.
The same guy also offers (for free) another app that lets you make your own IR's specifically for Bodilizer.
--------------------------------------------
Personally, I use this in my live rig for my eViolin, and in the studio for quickly-recorded guitars. Plus, it does cool things for some sampled instruments & especially FM synth sounds.
I will practically die if this thing ever stops working (seems fine with Win7-64) and I would kill someone else to have an improved GUI.
Is anyone up to the challenge? Please contact me, or maybe just contact the developer directly:

i got this for use live to help pickup guitar sound more miked, and like it too, works pretty well, despite some flakiness on occasion -
it would be good to have it tidied up and updated for reliability if nothing else.
i'm no help though, but best o luck.

Hey, Ben.
Have you been able to save / recall any custom presets? I can't, neither with Bodilizer's own manager nor reaper's.
Also, have you ever tried to make your own IR's ?

I got a copy of this way back when for providing impulses and beta testing. I have to say it's one of a kind. I wish someone would take it over.

What about Scott Stillwell or Schwa ? They're both guitar players and excellent plugin developers, right ? For that matter, so is Justin. This would make a nice little add-on package for Reaper and every other VST host out there.

Why doesn't he put it on sourceforge? I'd love to help but I've got too many projects on the go and very little time to work on them. I just can't take anything else on.

I'd almost give it a go if I thought I had more time - I'm a software engineer (multimedia, drivers, 3D) during the day so I'm sure it wouldn't be too much of a technical challenge - but I'd have to know what compiler he used, etc. etc. blah blah techie stuff.
Probably better if someone at Cockos took it and made it ReaBodyizer or some such..

Thats what I was thinking, either Stillwell/Schwa or from cockos.
Open source would be good, but sometimes smaller projects like this just sit there and no-one picks them up.

Please do :-) I just used the demo of this on a song for my daughter. It needed an acoustic but all I have is a Tele and a Heartfield strat. The strat and Bdilizer with some Comp/EQ was the best I could have ever got from an electric guitar.
If you need testers let me know?
Peace

great! I have not used it in a while but recall it being worthy of use and also of improvement. I don't think there is anything else like it. It would be nice to keep it alive and see it get smoothed out.

It's really not that hard. Okay, it's not exactly easy and some of it is positively arcane but mostly it's not that hard. Actually it is kinda hard, but some of it is really easy.

Mostly it needs the librarian to work.
Other things:
The knob movement is kinda' funky (I'd prefer sliders)
It could use a few more choice IR's.
A midi-learn function for every parameter. (esp so it can be used in other DAWS that don't have Reaper's learn function)
Probably a good idea to make sure it has no problems with Win7-64, though so far it seems OK. A true 64-bit version wouldn't hurt.
A manual that explains in more detail what a few of the parameters are actually doing.
Last, and of course I'm sort of dreaming, but I'd kill for a Mac version, and ESP for an RTAS version.
=================
FWIW, this thing would probably sell really well if properly promoted. The OD (original developer) was obviously not a salesman. Of course, being obscure also means little chance of being hacked by the Warez guys, which this never was.

Hmmm, I have plenty on my plate with Zen and the new vsti I'm working on. I really shouldn't do this, but still... if you get me the source I will fix the presets saving thing, add midi learn, and put it up on google code or sourceforge. For the other features, it's hard for me to commit to anything without seeing the source first.

That would be amazing.
I'd gladly pay a fee for this upgrade, and I'm sure others would as well.
To get the code, just email the guy, name & email in my first post. He will give everything to the first person who asks. (I suggest you also get the coding for his impulse-generating software.)
Wow, this will be wonderful.

On the one hand, learning the syntax of a language like C++ isn't _that_ hard,
on the other hand, learning the art of programming takes years to get good at.
In other words, you could learn the (very) basics on a few evenings, but getting to a point where you could work on large projects takes a long time.

If this gets on SourceForge, I'd be willing to contribute to, and possibly join the project.
The only real concern that might potentially hold me back would be the software compiler used - I'm used to MinGW and MinGW-w64, and although I don't mind firing up the free express version of MS Visual C++, If it was programmed to be dependent on stuff from the non-free MS compilers, that would be an issue.
I've actually started working on some IR/convo type stuff (both standard and using FFT) on my own, and could really use something like this to further my skills.

Bodilyser
Any news on this , I was int touch with Ingmar Johannsen as well and heard the same story , I was looking for a Fishman Aura Plugin and found this discussion which jogged my memory.
I think its a great plug in and would also love a MAc Version.

Well, 2 years down the pike, and no news anywhere of a new Bodilizer.
I guess that other company dropped the ball.
- And still absolutely nothing else like it, anywhere.
Ughhh.

I have been in touch with Ingemar recently , no news on this great plugin as you say.
Heres an implementation I have been working on for a pedal based on bodiliizer.

+1 for addition as one of the ReaPlugs. This thing is amazing, I've used it for years and am happy to see renewed interest. I just hope it ends up in the right hands. (Hint, hint)

Joe, somehow I missed your post in 2011.
I never actually thought to try Bodilizer on a clean electric guitar. I just did today, on a sort of old-timey blues thing. Wow, VERY cool. Combined with a small EQ bump, It made my clean Tele sound sort of like an ES345.
Thanks for the idea!

I have to throw warning at NCH Software. Do a little searching before installing anything from them. See criticisms here for example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCH_Software
I would advise staying well away from their software.
