Default Why would Reaper keep forgetting my MIDI Keyboard?

I'm adding a Nektar Impact GX Mini to a portable Reaper install. It shows up in Preferences/Control/Osc/Web. It seems to work fine, but if I close and reopen Reaper I have to add it again. Any thoughts welcome!

I have an Impact.
If I turn on the keyboard before I activate
Reaper it will recognize the keyboard.
If I turn on the keyboard after I have activated Reaper
I have to go into Preferences highlight the keyboard name and
and okay it then it recognizes the keyboard.
I have not tried finding out why Reaper does not
recognize the keyboard when I turn it on after activating Reaper.
Call me lazy..

Thanks. This is what I'm wondering about. This is where I have to keep adding the GX.

If it's on and connected when I start Reaper, should it should show up here in Control/Osc/web and not need to be added each time. Please let me know.

It stays in midi devices as expected.

I am sure it does however I will try that today when I start and let you know.
Sometimes it pays to turn on your peripherals before you turn on your computer.
There could well be a proper way to make sure Reaper and Impact will start up I just do not know it.
Have a look at your install directions there may be something there mixer9.
Someone else may chip in they are a really good keyboard.
Fit my uses anyway.

It should not need to be added each time FYI. "Usually", when using a device as a control surface you should make sure it is disabled for input and output in MIDI devices... However!...

Nektar tends to want it enabled for input AND attached in control surfaces so make sure you follow the instructions and installation of integration files exactly to a "t" just as a sanity check since Nektar is great (I have the P6 and LX25) since it mildy veers from other control surface setups:

https://nektartech.com/reaper-setup-...ng-impact-gxp/

That said, I do have a custom Presonus FaderPort driver I wrote back in 2011 and Reaper has a difficult time remembering it, so there could be some corner-case bug in reaper - Albeit, I'd make sure you have all of the above tended to first.

I tried out turning my keyboard on before activating Reaper it comes up in the program.
Yes turn it on before starting Reaper that works.
Karbo knows what he is talking about.

Default Same with my Nektar LX25+

I have a Nektar LX25+. If I don't switch it on before I start Reaper it's a bit of a pain. I have just got into the habit of switching it on before I go with Reaper now.

No biggie anyway -- I use it all the time and if I do it that way round I never have any issues.

Just a quick tip... If you forget to power on a MIDI device before you launch Reaper, you can usually "Reset MIDI Devices" in MIDI preferences and Reaper will usually find it. To make that more convenient, I made it a toolbar button that I can just click when I need it.

I can't say that works in all scenarios but figured I would share.

Well, Nektar Support has no answer, "That's strange, and unfortunately I don't think it's related to the GX Mini itself or the integration installation. I'm honestly not sure why this might happen." I still think it should be ready to go if I have it on and connected before I start Reaper. Thanks all.

Some kind advice do not get all tied up on these small things, back in the day an Avid 002 rack of mine needed to be switched on before the computer!
This meant re starting the computer all over again if I forgot.
Just remember to use Preferences when you forget to switch the keyboard on before the computer.
This is an easy thing to do.
These keyboards are great.

All the best

I'm with you on it being a small thing. And that their KBDs are very nice. Although it's not about not having it ON and plugged in before starting Reaper. No probs there

I'm thinking it's their DLL. This is a really new KBD from Nektar, but it is class compliant USB, and only 1 DLL. It is being forgotten from the Control Surfaces section of Preferences. And I've just compared it with a Nektar LX25+, and found the LX25+ is remembered between Reaper runs as it should be.

So, I'll get back to their tech support, who BTW didn't know there was such a thing as UserPlugins and see if they'll take it as a bug report.

Thanks!

hey why are you adding it as a control surface and a MIDI controller? You can't do both. remove it from the Control Surfaces page of preferences.

I know it sounds odd but Nektar's control surface integration wants both. The control surface driver they include is for Reaper-specific functionality (API extension functions); and the MIDI devices connection is for the keys and controller messages (from what I can tell with my P6 and LX25).

I posted a link to the manual where I mentioned this above. Regardless, reaper shouldn't be forgetting it.

A pal of mine has a Nektar and he has to switch it on before powering up, not just powering up Reaper - solved it for him and Karbo's tip works but only sometimes.

A stray thought, this is not one of those USB power glitches is it?

This one has no power switch - it's on when you plug it in. And nah, it's not a usb thing.
