Default "Lock track height" doesn't do much locking

NOW I GET IT!

"Lock track height" in the TCP context menu.

When phrased like that, you'd expect that it locks the track height, period - meaning that, if you want to resize that track again, you have to uncheck the option, right?

That's how it should work, right? It doesn't.

Instead, if you set the track to a certain size, it only stays that way unless you grab and resize it again, leaving you prone to accidentally resizing it when you meant to resize a different track. That kind of a thing tends to happen to me, at least.

-

There's another odd thing about it concerning arming the track for recording.

Currently, using the "Lock track height" option stops the track from blowing up when armed for recording. Or fourse, you can still resize it - but you can't resize it back to the minimum height while it's armed for recording.

-

Shouldn't these things work a little differently? As in:

1) "Lock track height" = You can't resize the track unless you unlock the height again?

2) Have an option that disables the "Minimum track height when recording" thing?

Seems obvious but many things in Reaper are like that. ;D

It's like item locking, which for a long time didn't prevent an item from being changed by the top five things I ever do when editing, though it did lock them for other things that were much less important/useful for moi.

Locked means...locked, no ? I was glad to see the item lock settings eventually appear so one could just check all the boxes. Time for track size to get same treatment (?)

I also think there should be option for envelope lanes to have a height lock option

You could ask in 10 years. The guy left last message in May 2021.

"Lock track height" option should be definitely renamed to reflect that it does locking only in special case and not generally as would be expected by any human being!

And better to have proper track height locking option.

Hi. Ten years and the topic is still current. What does that say?

lock track height prevents changes from global zoom actions like

View: Zoom vertically (MIDI CC relative/mousewheel)

or View: Zoom in vertical

or View: Toggle track zoom to minimum height

I think manually changing the track height by dragging was never the issue

Surely if a track height is locked, it's to stop it being accidentally changed. Even by dragging that particular track?

yeah you can never recover from a single track resized because your hand hovered over the exact 3 vertical pixel spot to resize, you pushed your finger down, held, and moved your arm… by accident.

Certainly if there's lots of tracks and envelope tracks, the tendency to accidentally resize a track whilst quickly moving through large projects is there. Happens to me. Maybe I shouldn't rush! I still think the point is locking a track height should, ya know... actually lock the track height.
