more keyboard?

anyone has some experience with "extended keyboard"?

i mean, something like this:

i wouldn't need Jog dial and potentiometers, just more decent keys for the shortcuts. Any cheaper solution? maybe two (PS2/USB) keyboards?

Not tryedd the Xkeys but I recently bought one of these

Works fine i,ve got it mapped to all the shortcuts i use.

what does the daisy-chain means? a split of the PS2 input? or an "insert"?

and does these devices have "special characters"?

i'm asking this becouse of the cheapness of a simple 2nd keyboard.
could that work?

I know a lot of people here are using this Belkin game controller which is about $40 US, I just yesterday set up an old drum pad as a keyboard extender -- lots of cheap options.

Yep. I like my little Nostromo 52... I think Bevoss here in the forums turned me on to it. It lays right under the left hand so my right is free for mousing. I have the thumb bar set up to control the transport. It's a neat tool for little bux. With Reapers deep short-cut programmability, something like this is a must-have IMO. It just makes DAW life easier.

Daisy chain means you can plug your qwerty keyboard into it , which in turn plugs into the pc.

Not sure what you mean by special characters but all keys can be programmed to be whatever you want. Easiest way is to record key presses from your qwerty keys.

Also features 3 layers (i think) so one key can be 3 different keys using shift etc. Thought to me this defeats the object. I bought it because i,m an old fashioned kinda guy that likes a button that does one thing only, not have to press a combination.

Oh almost forgot its got a magnetic card reader that works very handy as a pen holder.

Can that belkin function as a mouse as well?? I've got a cheap trackball, which I really hate, but I don't have the surface area for a mouse in my live rig....

does anyone know if these keys are also programmable for JUST ctrl or just shift (as i remember they wasn't the last time i used one)
also are mousebuttons (a five button mouse) programmable with that (shift, ctrl, alt) ? i think it would be great to have the modifiers directly at the mouse ?!

At this time , there are 5 stickers set, available for Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, Reason, Sonar and Pro Tools, but one of it could fit with Repear main functions (after remap some keys ^_^ )?

FWIW, could be interesting for lazy people or to help to remember shortcuts.

And since I'm crafty, I even welded a piece of tubing to a small plate that the keypad will mount to with velcro so that I can mount it right on my rack. I played with it a bit this evening and it works quite well. The main shortcoming is that if the attached USB cable isnt long enough, you will have to shell out another $20 for an extension cable.
