more keyboard?
anyone has some experience with "extended keyboard"?
i mean, something like this:
http://www.xkeys.com/xkeys/xk12884.php
i wouldn't need Jog dial and potentiometers, just more decent keys for the shortcuts. Any cheaper solution? maybe two (PS2/USB) keyboards?
thanks in advice

thanks, pwdm
what does the daisy-chain means? a split of the PS2 input? or an "insert"?
and does these devices have "special characters"?
i'm asking this becouse of the cheapness of a simple 2nd keyboard.
could that work?

I know a lot of people here are using this Belkin game controller which is about $40 US, I just yesterday set up an old drum pad as a keyboard extender -- lots of cheap options.

Yep. I like my little Nostromo 52... I think Bevoss here in the forums turned me on to it. It lays right under the left hand so my right is free for mousing. I have the thumb bar set up to control the transport. It's a neat tool for little bux. With Reapers deep short-cut programmability, something like this is a must-have IMO. It just makes DAW life easier.

Daisy chain means you can plug your qwerty keyboard into it , which in turn plugs into the pc.
Not sure what you mean by special characters but all keys can be programmed to be whatever you want. Easiest way is to record key presses from your qwerty keys.
Also features 3 layers (i think) so one key can be 3 different keys using shift etc. Thought to me this defeats the object. I bought it because i,m an old fashioned kinda guy that likes a button that does one thing only, not have to press a combination.
Oh almost forgot its got a magnetic card reader that works very handy as a pen holder.

does anyone know if these keys are also programmable for JUST ctrl or just shift (as i remember they wasn't the last time i used one)
also are mousebuttons (a five button mouse) programmable with that (shift, ctrl, alt) ? i think it would be great to have the modifiers directly at the mouse ?!

I discover another solution,yesterday:
To have an old keyboard, and to use it especially with DAW, which this kind of stickers:
https://askvideo.com/index.php?cPath=33
http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp...tors-Keys.html
At this time , there are 5 stickers set, available for Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, Reason, Sonar and Pro Tools, but one of it could fit with Repear main functions (after remap some keys ^_^ )?
FWIW, could be interesting for lazy people or to help to remember shortcuts.

Not sure if this really counts as a DIY project but its cheap, usefull and sort of home made. Being a drummer that records alone, I discovered real quick that it can be an issue to hit record and them try to run behind the kit before that last lead in click. I need a way to control my DAW from the comfort of my thone! There is the Red Rover which is basically a remote for CEP/Audition that controls basic transport functions as well as track arm, mute and solo and I think thats about it. While that would be perfect for what I need, I am far to cheap to pay the $200 pricetag and they never come up used on Ebay.
Well today Im at the computer store and ran across this little gem. A USB number keypad designed to be used with laptops. The best part is that it only cost $9.99! Since Audition lets you program your own shortcuts, I just made some sticky labels so that I dont forget what does what, highlighted the function I want to control and hit the key. And since I'm crafty, I even welded a piece of tubing to a small plate that the keypad will mount to with velcro so that I can mount it right on my rack. I played with it a bit this evening and it works quite well. The main shortcoming is that if the attached USB cable isnt long enough, you will have to shell out another $20 for an extension cable.
