Default Classical editing, the working solution!!!

Hi guys,

After some experimentations, I found a solution that works to make nice and easy editing for classical music.
I wrote some 3 ant 4 points editing actions, inspired by pellek one.
I wrote some actions to manage moving contents with a griffin power mate, it's so easy now!!

Hope this will help!!

The video is showcasing but so far I found no info in itself neither a link to more details about how to achieve it. You mind sharing the knowledge?

If you'd be so kind as to share how you achieve this, I'd be very grateful.

This would be another very useful tool in my workflow (which is for speech editing, rather than music) but the second move you make in this video (where you Slip the contents at the left of the item in and out of the fade and the other end of the item Ripples with it) is something I've been trying to do for a while. I have workarounds involving custom scripts, but this may be another option.

Can you also make the same Slip action at the right hand side (ie the Fade Out end) of an Item?

Thanks

Andy

I can share the custom action that can do this (I have to discover how to share it) but to try you need something like griffin powermate or other tool that can convert a mouvement into keystroke command!!

Sure, but I'd happily get a Powermate or something similar if it would give me this function.

I think there's a way to upload custom actions directly to the website, but it's probably easier just to type it out!!

I believe he has no clue how to upload the actions here.

Just select your custom actions in the action list and export them as keymap. This file can be attached to a post here.

well to the OP... if you have your custom actions already exported and saved to a file... then upload that file to the reaper stash... when you do that you'll get a link that you can post here for others to go get your file

IF you don't know how to get your custom actions as files, do this:

Open action list
find one of your custom actions and use control clk to select them all
find the Import/export... button and select "Export Selected Items"

when the save window opens, give them a file name, like "my custom edit actions" [reaper will add the file name extension, you don't have to type it]

go find that saved file and upload it to the reaper stash

Custom actions can be copied by right-clicking on it and choosing "Copy selected action text". The result will be like this one:
Code:
Custom: Duplicate Time
Item: Select all items in current time selection
Action: Wait 0.1 seconds before next action
  Set ripple editing all tracks
Action: Wait 0.1 seconds before next action
Item: Duplicate selected area of items
Action: Wait 0.1 seconds before next action
  Set ripple editing off

it's just this action list

Custom: HB Move content left
Set ripple editing all tracks
SWS/AW: Select all items in group if grouping is enabled
Item edit: Move items/envelope points left
Item edit: Shrink left edge of items

Thanks- I'll have a play around with it. This I presume accounts for the second move in the video, where you slip the contents of the right hand item "under the crossfade".

Your first move is dragging the whole item to the left (rather than the contents). What action is this? With my setup just moving an Item left would cause the crossfade between them to lengthen - yours stays the same. Can you explain how you have your settings to make this work? I presume it's a combination of the behaviour chosen when items overlap and auto-crossfade etc.

Does anyone know if it's possible to move a crossfade with an action leaving contents unmoved (which you do by picking up the crossfade with the mouse in this video)? I'd like to be able to add such a move to the custom action above - this would allow us to do a similar "slip contents under crossfade " edit on the right edge of an Item as well.

Default Griffin Powermate USB

Reading this thread got me interested in the Griffin Powermate. I looked it up and was gobsmacked by the bad reviews. Appears that they stopped creating drivers for this at Windows Vista...but they're still selling it. YIKES!

https://griffintechnology.com/us/pro...ards/powermate

I've been thinking about trying a 3DConnexion space mouse in Reaper (it's a must-have for CAD) but their drivers are not very customizable. I would love to use that device as a mod/pitch wheel.

The OP and I both use MacOS for Reaper, so Powermate is an option.

For Win10 I wonder if the Contour Shuttle could be used instead?

For sure. It's way superior compared to the PowerMate (friend has one catching dust because of their old drivers) for easy keyboard shortcut navigation tasks in software. Not sure what the PowerMate sends to the system - are these simple keycommands?

I think so - either keystrokes or mousewheel moves.

Contour Shuttle movement is either stepped (middle ring) or dynamic (outer ring with a spring to the middle were every direction has six stages).
The PowerMater feels different with its smooth non acceleration style. I found it always more of a lifestyle product while the Contour devices are meant for work.

Andyp24, to move the crossfade, just go to the mouse preferences!!

Hi - I know that :-)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.....

In the video, you perform 3 different operations:

1) dragging the whole of the right hand item to the left, with the crossfade at its beginning moving with it, and all items to the right Rippling

2) moving the contents of the right hand item to the left, but also moving its fade out to the left to preserve the end of the clip, and all items to the right Rippling

3) moving the crossfade between the left and right hand items to the left (so as to move both the out point of the left item, and the in point of the right item)

Your Custom Action explanation applies to 2) only, I think.

I earlier asked a question about how you have things set up to achieve 1). In my config, that would either "stretch" the crossfade between the items (with auto crossfade enabled); or overlap the two clips for longer, but keeping their current fade lengths. Can you tell me how you set up in preferences so that moving the right hand item to the left also moves the out point of the left hand item? And is this also done with a Custom Action (that could be mapped to your Powermate)?

Finally, for 3) my question is not "how do I move a crossfade"? I know that can be done with the mouse. The question is "can I nudge a crossfade with an Action" so that I can map that ALSO onto a device like the Powermate or Contour Shuttle.

What I would like is for all 3 of these operations to be achievable from the same device, without having to revert to the actual computer mouse for some of them.

I hope this explains better what I'm trying to do.

Thanks for any insight you can give.
Andy
