bASS_BUMp: for a nice round bottom...
this is NOT a resonant high pass filter...
it is a high pass filter with a "bump".
what's the difference ?
one adds "resonance", the other adds "roundness".
give it a try, you will hear what i'm talking about...
check out this frequency response comparison of my bASS_BUMp JSFX (green) and ReaEQ (red), both set to about +3 dB "resonance"...
this is a very sexy curve, indeed...
i have attached the JSFX in this post, please give it a try and tell me what you think...
thanks
edit:
here's another frequency plot showing the curves for (Fc = 55 Hz) bump values of 0, +1.5, +3, +4.5, +6 dB...
the parameters are self explanatory, really, but i will clarify here...
frequency = center of bump (+/- 5 Hz)
bump = boost amount (+/- 0.25 dBFS)
output gain = "clean" gain (no saturation or clipping) to adjust output level
64 bit float processing so there is no need to worry about input/output level or clipping.

Yes this can work quite nicely on some things. It's what BOZ's bark of dog and PA's bx_subfilter does.

Bark of Dog is a (typical) resonant filter, it looks exactly like the ReaEQ spectrum.
this filter i made is a little different, it's has a greater bandwidth for the boost, so it does not "ring" like a resonant filter and it has a "smoother" phase response.
you could (easily) duplicate this with ReaEQ and two(?) filters, but (like Bark of Dog) this is meant to be a "one trick pony" and easy to set/use.
i haven't tried the bx_subfilter, so i can't comment on what that filter actually does/is, but i would bet it is a resonant filter.
thanks for trying/commenting.

Thank you,
i will give it a try.
BTW: What tool do you use for the graphs? The first one is SPAN, an the other?

i have an older version of Fuzzmeasure (mac only, free demo)...
http://supermegaultragroovy.com/products/fuzzmeasure/
you can get similar graphs with R.E.W (free for mac & pc)
http://www.roomeqwizard.com
both are room/acoustic measurement software, but you can import/capture an impulse from anything and it will give you the data/graphs.

it almost looks like the title for a (spam thread) hip-hop fitness video...
my other choice for a name was "Bark of P.A.W.G.", but i thought that might be a little too sexist (didn't want to cause any problems...)...

Someone please put me out of my misery and tell me where to add the txt file to REAPER.

REAPER\Effects, I put it in the misc folder for now until I make one called bezusheist.
Reaper's menu>options>show REAPER resource blabla will take you places also, aim for the effects folder.
Bonus:
This ThunderCat makes me wanna play with analyzers.
And for some reason I feel like trying non parametric EQs for a change.
Ps, literally! don't even go there!

Many thank for the help. Shows up just fine now, so going to check it out over the next day or two.
Thanks also for the chance to try this FX.

So far I like it. I put it on a bass guitar track and popped the bump up a bit and swept the freqs. Found a spot where the track seemed to suddenly clean up and become more defined. Matched the volume and ta da!

thanks for taking the time to check this out...
i haven't seen another (digital) filter like this, so i felt the need to share it.
it's based on a simple technique...it's a low shelf filter & HPF, and you boost the shelf to get your "bump".
i also have a version with saturation that i will post when i get it all tidied up, so stay tuned...(it's like a more "subtle" version of something like R-Bass or whatever).
anyway, great to hear the comments and i hope people can find this useful.
i know it's not "revolutionary" or anything, but i think it can be useful and provide a good alternative/opposite to resonant filters.
thanks

to me it looks like it's generating an 808 kick at 69 Hz +/-...
there's no real saturation or anything, but there's "something" going on.
(bridged T filter ? naah, cant be...)
so...yeh...i'm a little stumped right now...i haven't had the time to actually try it/ listen to it, but my first impression is "WTF?"
definately interesting...thanks for pointing it out, i like "different" things.

Metric Halo Thump does the same with more control and is free. I'd be curious to compare all these alternatives to each other to try and find the 'perfect low end': Melda MBassador, Waves Lowair, Brainworx Boom...

C'mon man
Of course it's a resonant filter, it's just got a fairly low Q.
Electrical engineering 101, Butterworth, Chebyshev, Bessel anyone ?

but...i don't hear no resonances
but seriously...
ok, maybe i should have been more clear and said "this is not your typical resonant filter like a moog or something"...
you can not duplicate this curve/bump with any (single) filter by adjusting the resonance/Q. the Q/gain relationship is totally different. so this does not "act" like a "typical" resonant filter plug-in.

By the way, your plugin looks useful, so no diss from me, good job !
Duplicate with a single ReaEQ filter ? OK maybe not.
However you can simulate this with a high pass filter and a bandpass filter tuned to the similar frequencies, I did this one in under a minute:

yeh, it's basically 4 one pole filters...hard (impossible?) to replicate with just one filter, but you could do it with 2 filters, easy.
it consists of:
a one pole LPF*gain + one pole HPF = "cross-over" / acts as a shelf/bump (green trace)
then two one pole HPF = 12 dB HPF (blue trace)
(they all share the same Fc.)
red trace = final filter
so it's pretty simple, but different than the same old filter.
honestly, i just started a thread about it because i thought the name/title i came up with was pretty funny...
thanks for stopping by

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, you've given us a cool little tool !!
And a graphic artist could have a ball with the letters in the name as you say

Have you figured out what goes on with reafir? > this can give totally customized shapes.
When I play with it- I set the noise floor and ceiling levels to +/-150db.
It's a special tool because of the edit modes and fft sizes.
Can work as quite nice partial resonator and subtractor.
