Default sudden stuttering play back

My play back on certain projects has begun to stutter for no reason. the CPU usage is running 24%-39%. ram usage is very low. NO disc drive peaking is showing. and the transport time is not flashing red. I increased the latency buffer size on my RME hammerfall card from 1024ms to 2048ms. I also switched my I/O settings to synchronous. still having the issue. I updated video card and looked for new drivers for the audio card. also updates to latest reaper 64 bit. where do I go from here?

Are you using Reapitch or Reatune? I found for me that anything with Elastique pitch shifting causes problems like this.

Here's something I put together in the "bug reports" section:

Use Performance Meter and check individual CPU usage.

That'll only help you if it's normal plugin usage that is causing the problem. Chances are that in performance meter they will see "RT CPU" spikes that are causing their stuttering. While you see RT CPU spikes, you won't see a tracks CPU usage spike. In my case, I have tracked the RT CPU spikes down to elastique on a couple of projects now. If I remove Reapitch/Reatune or "freeze" the tracks and remove the plugs, the problem goes away.

It also might be worth trying a SMALLER ASIO buffer. I seem to remeber I had a few issues early on using anything over 1024 with my Hammerfall. Going smaller although counter-intuitive, sorted it out. Problem went away and never returned in my case.

On Windows? Make sure processor scheduling is set to 'background services'.... makes a hell of a difference!
