Default Midi Takes Question

I hope this makes sense...

I have a midi item that was entered in the piano roll view instead of played in. I want to audition a completely different idea without changing this long item. I guess I could record a blank take then add what I want to this new take in piano roll, but...Is there any way to tell Reaper to add a blank take the same length as the original so I can enter the notes via piano roll instead of recording/playing a new take in?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just mute the current midi item and put a Time selection around it and do a Time selection punch in and record a new midi take. And if you want to merge the two unmute the original and glue them. Check how to fine manual or great Reaper videos for more details.
