(Mint/Reaper Users) How to install Reaper in Mint 18 Xfce?

Hi there

I'm a newbie about this and I've found some instructions on the net but not sure which I should follow. Is there a right or wrong way to set Mint for recording with Reaper?

Anyway, Where should I start? Any link where I can follow the instructions? etc?

The best way to run Reaper on linux is to delete linux, install Windows or OSX, and run it in the native environment it was built for.

Ok give us the guts saressu.

What do you have presently on your computer, like is it windows 7 or 10, mac?.
Other info like motherboard and is it one harddisk or one harddisk and an ssd.
It would be helpful to maybe do a screen shot of your disk manager.

Before we begin on this fabulous journey..
1/ Export you reaper config and save to something like google drive.
2/ Back up your install files so you don't have to download them again.
3/ Ideally you will need 2 usb sticks one for windows(hopefully not needed), assuming you would like to keep windows as well, and one usb stick for the mint iso.

Lastly, what vsti and other software do you use and want to be able to use?

Once I already have reaper running on my other/main PC on windows 10, so we're good to go. We skip the backup/import/export part

Great, so the whole laptop.

Download the linux mint iso

Download this to make a bootable usb with the Mint iso
https://rufus.akeo.ie/

While that is downloading you could go into the laptops Bios, you do that on most computers by powering on the computer and pressing delete at the first screen, some computers it's F2.
Once you are in, try to find an option to reset to defaults, do that.
I think your bios is similar to mine, look for in the advanced section where it says compatibility settings, set it to other os and disable secure boot.
save and exit.

As for VSTi, Just some little things/freewares to be played with MIDI keyboard... Addictive drums, addictive keys, Aria player, sforzando, nothing more than that. My vsts and vsti's I leave for my main windows PC.

Ok Saresu, If you havn't done this yet, update your machine
with

and then

You mentioned in your email kxstudio, I think this is a good way to go.

From this page there are 2 deb files, download both, click on them, they will install the necessary repositories. Repos are not the actual software but are used to tell your package manager where to get the software, if that makes any sense

It's already update, I haven't updated any type 4 and 5 levels kernels, should I go ahead and update kernels too?

Nah just keep the kernel as is for the moment. Of course if you want to, go for it, and some will recommend that you do.

Just to make sure everything is ship shape do

again.

Open up synaptic, search something like "kx meta", without the speech marks.

You will see something like kxstudio meta-wine
install that by clicking the box next it, then at the top will be a button called apply changes or something like that.

edit: there all sorts of other goodies from the kxstudio repo, but let's get the bugger going first, yes?

Once you confirm that wineasio is installed you need to register the dlls, you that by the following commands

regsvr32 wineasio.dll

and then

wine64 regsvr32 wineasio.dll

while you have the terminal open, you might as well add your username to the audio group. You do that by

usermod -a -G audio username

replace the username with your own username

**EDIT: It should be

I got this from Mint forum in the context of focusrite 18i20

"Pulseaudio is out of question anyway, it increases the lag instead of reducing it. For audio work use Jack and real-time kernel."

What do u think Garrick?

Edit: Actually Pulse audio doesnt recognize 18i20
