Default Reaper preferences freeze

Hi,
I'm using windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, i7 - 4790, 3.60GHz, 8GB RAM with the latest version of Reaper (4.77). Every time I:
- go to preferences.
- Device Setting.
- click ASIO configuration and go to the Line 6 Sonic Port VX control panel Reaper freezes.
When I close the VX's control panel Reaper resumes to work (responds).
If I open the task manager it shows that Reaper is not responding.
If I go to the VX's control panel through windows control panel it doesn't freeze.

Thanks a bunch.

This is not a problem.
Think about it.
When you have the ASIO panel open, if you look at the top right corner of reaper screen you will see it says something like "Audio engine stopped"

This is because you cant change the ASIO settings whilst ASIO is actually running.
Therefore Reaper cannot play since it has no Audio engine running.

What you are describing is perfectly normal behaviour.
I don't know of any DAW that will let you change your ASIO settings "on the fly" or any reason you would want to.

As to how you are accessing the Line6 ASIO driver via Windows control panel, what exactly are you able to see from the control panel? I run an rme interface and all I can access from Windows control panel is the basic things like drivers, etc.
Are you saying that you can access and alter the ASIO panel settings for your line6 whilst reaper is running???

Reaper also says "audio engine stopped" when I go to the windows sound tab or play a song in my media player, yet reaper doesn't freeze.
As to what I see when I access the driver through the control panel is buffer size and bit rate. It is the exact same window I get when I click the device settings.

I just uninstalled ASIO4ALL and the problem went away.

I don't use asio4all, the Sinic Port VX has its own designated driver, and I can't use the VX without the driver. Also, just to make sure I'm understood - when I say reaper freezes I mean that in task manager it says "not responding". When I use media player for instance, the device is offline but reaper responds.

Any solution?

So is REAPER actually not responding or is Task Manager only showing the "not responding" message?
