Default What do you guys do for electric guitar sounds???

I just got my electric off of layaway today and was excited to get it home and run it trhough my computer to see how it sounds. I tried every amp sim that I had and they all sound bad. What do you guys do to get good electric sounds? Do you just use an amp? I was hoping that I could run it through my computer and get useable sounds somehow. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

if you can get it in nicely, the JCM900 from simulanalog is great

The included JS effects have some AWESOME guitar sounds as well!

The trick is getting it in nicely. A direct box is a must have for this

even a cheapo 25 dollar matchbox from rolls will do fine

Or make your own

If you are recording it from a cab, might I humbly suggest this way

if you have active pickups that might work fine, otherwise you need to convert your low level high impedance guitar signal to the mic level or line level level low impedance expectations of your mixer

I don't have active pickups. I'm really clueless here. I guess I'll just buy an amp:-( I'll be the only one with bad electric guitar sounds:-(

P.S. My acoustic sounds awesome.

Get a good clean tone first, then you know your levels are right.

Then introduce things slowly - the GuitarSuite plugs are really good. Try FreeAmp2. don't expect 100% true-life amp sims out of it, but it can be real fun to muck around with the controls and see what does what.

Even if you think it sounds good now, get a direct box. You're missing all of the low end without one. It's going to be much thinner than it should be.

I've gotten some really good sounds with this one -

$20. Can't beat it if you're on a budget.

Default direct boxes and/or AD/DA...

Hello,

right now I am using a Digitech RP2000 as my guitar-to-spdif converter to inject in my MAudio Delta 66. I don't use its internal effects when recording with Reaper as I record (nearly) dry.

When I use the spdif instead of analog out, my sound is sooo clean (no noise at all, I mean) it is a dream.

Now, if my Digitech had a problem, I would not know by what I could replace it. I am looking for a "cheap" AD/DA converter,
but I can't find any. It seems it is cheaper to buy a full featured multieffect than a simple AD/DA converter...

I've had more fun with Freeamp2 and that Suburban guitar simulator VSTi in the last couple of days than I've had for a long time. OK, must get out more.
