Default Need Help

Hi there, downloaded Reaper the other so I am really new to this.

I am looking to record my electric piano so I plug into my mic port, open new track start recording, when I play back the piano it sounds like an electric guitar? Very distorted.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Steve

With this sort of problem you may need to do some detective work. The problem could be at the piano, the lead, the mike, the audio device or the computer.

That said, I'd say first thing to check is if you are recording too hot (ie too loud a signal).

What audio device are you using? Does it have any attenuation, ie means of lowering the strength of the incoming signal?

Could be something to do with the piano itself or the audio device. What happens if you plug a mike in and record yourself crooning into it? If that sounds OK then the audio device and computer at least are OK.

Sounds like line-level signal plugged into mic input to me, if I may be permitted to jump to conclusions.

He said he plugged the "electric piano" in the "mic port".

Have you a line input on your audio interface Steve?
