You should post this in the Tips and Tricks forum section as well. And post in the general forum too in case someone wants to build on your work but just happens to be looking for no tips and tricks .

This is one of the threads we should have moved into the regular forums with v4 release. Going to do it now, better late than never . Tips and tricks is where it lives from now on.

They aren't dead, just smell a bit funny I thought a bit of fresh air here in the wide open could do them good maybe.

New to Reaper. Please provide a cookbook approach to installing your multi-scale FX into Reaper. I cannot locate the folder mentioned previously. However, put the file into the data folder and sub-folder titled MIDI. But Reaper does not recognize it's presence by listing it on all plugins of the FX window. Using T in midi editor produces only Transpose. Please help.

.reascale file format
Hi, Fantastic array of scales but I'd like to add some for my own idiosyncratic approaches. But I can't find the format for creating my own set of scales to load via .reascale -- can someone point me toward it? thanks so much! David

Fantastic!
Many many thanks for this.
It is a great addition (or maybe first step) to Theory Helper by Lokasenna!

C Double Harmonic is a mode of F Hungarian Minor (also known as Hungarian Gypsy, which is the bestest scale in the universe). You can find that one in the giant set of scales in the first post.
You may also find the Theory Helper script in my signature helpful - it has a search feature exactly for questions like this.

Agree 100% - bestest
Does anyone know how to use these scales as an input FX with JS MIDI snap to key?
This JS plug only has the basic scales, and I was wondering how to use these other (better) scales with snap to key?

1. Download one of the larger scale sets from this thread: https://stash.reaper.fm/8070/ZD-complete.reascale
2. In Reaper's MIDI editor (you might have to stretch the window for it to show up) click the Scale part of the Key Snap settings.
3. Choose "Load".
4. Select the file you downloaded.
5. You should now have a whole pile of scales to play with, including the bestest scale in the universe.

Thanks Lokasenna,
I have these scales already in the midi editor, but they still do not show up with JS Snap to Midi - it seems the JS scales are .txt files.
I attempted recording straight into midi editor with snap to key on - and when record starts, this function turns off.
Anyone know how to get all of the Reaper scales into JS Midi Snap to Key ?

The scales for the JS: MIDI Snap To Key are in Reaper resource folder
\Data\ix_scales\ and are separate text files per scale. Their format is different than what reascale has, so you would have to make a new text file for every scale you'd like to put in there.
Example of harmonic minor
ix_scales
Code:
//Scale file. Each step should be on a new line and there should be no more lines after the final step.
0
2
3
5
7
8
11
Reascale
Code:
# .reascale files can be loaded into the REAPER MIDI editor, via the Key dropdown list.
#
# Type 0 is a scale, type 1 is a chord.
#
# Lines starting with '#' are ignored.
#
# To create a scale definition, place each interval number
# at the correct number of semitones from the left (root).
#
# For snapping to scale, all that matters is which values are not zero.
# The actual interval numbers are only used when transposing, and can be repeated.
# If needed (for exotic scales), use A=10, B=11, C=12.

Thanks Xpander
- that is all way above my (non programming) skill set to attempt.
I can do lock to scale with Scaler, - so I can get the input filtering.

Ah, sorry, got confused about which Snap To Key we were talking about.
I have this script on ReaPack that might help: "Convert current scale to ix_scale". It takes the currently-selected scale in a MIDI editor and spits out the equivalent text file for the JS plugin to use.

Does anyone know if this or anything else works in Real Time? I want to remap notes live. Probably I'll end up using Max VST otherwise.
Thx!!!

I answered my own question - it works GREAT in reaControlMIDI!
I'm using it to rescale edrum notes to scales -> synths and it's working perfectly. Next step is I might try to automate reacontrolmidi stepping through diff keys so I can modulate the whole kit.
I do have to load the scale file each time I start a new instance or ReaControlMIDI. Is there a directory I can store the reascale file so it's always picked up?
Thx!!!!
