...from recording for some time. Have switched to mac in the meantime. Is the OS X version of Reaper on par with the Win version? Thanks in advance.

Yes, it totally is.
I run Reaper for years now on mac ; it flies and is rock solid for me.
OSX 10.12.5, macbook retina 2015 & Hackintosh X99.
Reaper 5.50rc4 - 64bit.
Have fun on your mac !

Confirmed! I recently bought an old (2006) Mac Mini 10.7 just to try out.

Reaper works fine on it.
