Default Synths won't stop droning

I've encountered the following annoyance where by after I stop playback of my tracks some synths (mentioned below) keep droning a single note that never ends. If I switch to another window (say web broswer) the audio abruptly stops, but as soon as Reaper has focus again the drone instantly starts.

It has happened a bunch with TAL Noisemaker and with Dexed, but I'm pretty sure it has happened with other synths as well, I just don't remember which right now (sorry).

I've downloaded Dexed today and it is unusable because of this. It happens every time I stop the audio.

I'm running Reaper on a Mac El Capitan.

I only get this with one external synth, a Moog Minitaur, on the odd occasion. I hit F3 and it goes away.

Try these options:

prefs>plugins>vst>don't flush synths (unchecked)
prefs>audio>playback>flush fx on stop (checked)

That the audio stops when Reaper is in the background is due to the first option under prefs>audio.

You may still get stuck notes from time to time (nature of MIDI). That's what the send MIDI note offs action is for (default F3).

I get this too, on many vsti, it's annoying as hell.

What you can do is search in the actions window for "all notes off".
If the notes are hanging do to using a MIDI device, running just the action should work, if however it happened while playing back a midi item, you'll need to play the item again and while it's playing run that same action.

Don't forget you can assign a keyboard or midi/osc shortcut to any action so you don't have to always open and search the list.

Anyway... hope this helps.

@foxAsteria,

...ahh, thanks for pointing that out. I had switched that option sometime ago while I was doing some testing, and totally forgot to switch it back.
