Default How to zoom horizontally and vertically with a mouse drag?

Hi,

I'm not sure this is possible at all, but I learned to ask first before embarrassing myself with a feature request for something that already exists.

What I would like to do is zoom horizontally and vertically by dragging the mouse (with middle button held and possibly a modifier key)

E.g. hold Ctrl and drag middle button left-right to zoom horizontally, drag up-down to zoom vertically.

I have found the zoom horizontally setting in the mouse modifiers, but I think it's a bit unintuitive as you need to drag up-down to zoom horizontally.

Am I missing something?

make a custom action including both zoom horizontally and vertically (there are inverted actions of each, so use the one that makes sense to you), and then assign it to your mousewheel (with or without modifier) or as a mouse modifier in preferences. In mouse modifiers, you can also invert the behavior.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately, I think I didn't explain very well what I meant. It's probably best demonstrated here:

(different software)
At about 1:07 he demonstrates this behaviour:
Drag up/down for vertical zoom, drag left/right for horizontal zoom.
So they can happen at the same time but not necessarily in equal measures, if that makes sense.
Together with hand scroll (which I know how to get) I find this a wonderfully intuitive way to navigate big time lines.

ah, ok. well you can customize it a bit, but won't be able to do it quite like in the vid (would be cool tho).

for navigating big projects, also check out the navigator. you can right drag there for zooming in both directions and left drag to pan. it only truly becomes useful though if you color your items and tracks.

I never know you could do that in the Navigator, thanks for the heads up.

However - I do think I would prefer navigating in the same window I'm working in, i.e. not having to switch over.

I think I'll make this into a feature request but try and chose my wording better.

Thanks again!

Don't forget you can dock it.
