Default Would be so awesome but probly way too hard to implement

So there've been some discussions about notation "paper" background.

How cool would it be to have a faded wave-form from a selected track (likely master track) as the notation screen background. Then you could also align midi notes to waveforms quite easily!

Already possible somewhat, if:

1. You have MIDI editor docked in a docker (but not locked to other dockers, instead in a docker window)
2. Set transparency of the docker
3. Use the "project sync" timebase
4. Now you can overlap the MIDI editor with arrange and align notes to waveforms etc.

Pretty old image of that in action:

Nice ! even though I understand he asked for "notation"…

Looks like viable for somebody to provide a (findable) (set of) scripts on that behalf (in ReaPack).

Well notation is accessible from the MIDI editor, so it will also work for that.

This is very handy in piano roll mode, but I'm not sure that it would work equally well in notation, since notation isn't regularly spaced: Even with "musical spacing" disabled, barlines and key signatures interrupt the notes' spacing.

(BTW, another in addition to the method that EvilDragon gave above, you can also use the inline editor: If you make a temporary copy of the audio item underneath the MIDI item, the inline editor will be semi-transparent.)

It would almost have to be a custom pseudo-notation view. I knew it was too much to ask, but that midi-editor trick is super cool. I'm gonna start using that immediately!

{edit} I can't figure out step 3, 'Use the "project sync" timebase'.

Just check which timebases are available in MIDI editor Options menu.

Behavior of sync timebase in MIDI editor changed if you have monitors side by side and MIDI editor to the right, arrange to the left (say).

I have only one monitor (laptop) and run everything full-screen though.

Yes, there was a change in v6.02 in regards to how a floating (docked) MIDI editor now syncs to arrange view.
