Default Full end to end workflow

hi all,

after years of inactivity trying to get back into writing and recording and have just upgraded to latest reaper.

is anyone aware of a full end to end (i.e. tracking, mixing, (quasi)mastering) tutorial for reaper (or any DAW)?

for years I made it up as I went along but I'm thinking somewhere out there in the ether someone must have produced some sort of workflow guide.

I'd like to understand more about send/returns and buses etc as to date I've taken a very straightforward approach. I suppose essentially what I'm looking for is workflow for going from an arrangement of recorded tracks to a final stereo mixdown.

any guidance much appreciated.

thanks

On the main Reaper page, there's a tab called Videos, which is a series by Kenny Gioia.

He's just released a new set called Recording Your Band in Reaper, which looks (haven't watched them yet) as though it runs right through from the very start (setting up Reaper and plugging things in). If that's not the kind of thing you're doing, then there's another set called something like Your First MIDI Song in Reaper, which might be closer. There are definitely videos on setting up Sends/Returns etc.

All worth watching, especially as Reaper does quite a few things differently from other DAWs (Sends/Returns/Folders being one of them).

Hope you find what you need.

thanks for pointing me in that direction, i'll take a look.

my own set up is basic but functional:

acoustic guitars, vocals recorded with a condenser mic
electric guitars recorded either direct and post processed or via a boss guitar floorboard
midi and VSTi for pretty much everything else with a couple of controllers

In that case, both the series I mentioned will probably be helpful. And from there, pick and choose which of the other categories you need to get deeper into.

Enjoy!

thanks, though I've owned Reaper since about 2010 I've only scratched the surface

I'm currently trying to re-arrange a lot of recordings originally made in Cubase, which is fun!

wardle, and any time you hit a snag just post in the forum. The number of people more than willing to help those with questions is unbelievable. And if you post with an emergency at 3 AM there's an excellent chance someone for whom it's 2 PM will answer!
