Reaper Remix
Re-mixed a Jill Scott cover song in Reaper, which is how I get more accustomed to using it. On commercial projects I just go back later and mix some of the tracks in Reaper to learn it better. To Justin and company, I never give those to clients since I have a personal use license.
Anyway...

Waves, Altiverb, Classic delay etc.

Sounds great on my Bluesky 2.1 .
It's nice to get a non-squashed mix once in a while.

Thanks. I did raise the average level with a L2 but I didn't overdo it... I hope.
I did make a classic L2 mistake. I applied it to the master bus after I did the vocal automation, had to go back and do it all again. It made the softer parts in the beginning jump out way too loud.
Usually once the rough music mix is done I strap on a L2 to get the master level up a little, tweak the music levels a bit and then do final vocal automation into the bus comp and the L2... if I'm mixing something that won't be mastered.

That link is dead. Not sure what you meant but I use very little compression as a general rule.

Greetings Lawrence! Excuse for the long answer. You mix is sympathy for me, but it has some typical mistakes. Very few average frequencies. Try to use another EQ. But it is better remix without use master EQ. Also is important the width of drums. It cannot be five meters. Crash sounds very loudly. I agree, that a compression a delicate question. But if you wish to create illusion of dynamics, you should do it still twice. I have written it because itself I do such mistakes. It is normal. Yours faithfully, Mike.

Cool, it sounds pretty good.. I'd be curious how this differs from your first mix, too...
Oh and re: personal license explanation, no need, we trust ya
