Default How to make the background for volume fader paler? (default theme)

Hi. Newbie here. First post.

On my monitor, the background of the track control panel's volume fader in the default theme is nearly as dark as the black "slot" that it runs in. This makes it difficult to see the left-most limit of the slot (-inf dB). So I'd like to make it paler.

I started researching WALTER and I'm guessing the background color of that volume fader may be shared with (and therefore defined by) the background of the track label:

master.tcp.label.color:
Second four coordinates: background

But I don't know how to use that or where to modify it. The instructions on the WALTER page (https://www.reaper.fm/sdk/walter/walter.php) say "(for more information on this, see XXX)".

Can anyone help please?

Hi,

you need to edit the PNG image file:
mcp_volbg.png (mixer)
tcp_volbg.png (track)

select and alter the part that is -not- the thin black slot and -not- pink or yellow.
change the lightness or coor with an image editor like Photshop or Gimp, etc..

Thank you. Where are those files? I'm having trouble finding them.

you have to unpack (unzip) the theme and open the image folder.
see Sticky #3 at the top of the themeing forum.
download the PDF or watch the video.

Thanks.

So I renamed C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\ColorThemes\D efault_6.0.ReaperThemeZip to Default_6.0.Zip, unzipped it, edited tcp_volbg.png in each of the 3 sizes (100, 150, 200) to give it a background of RGB60 instead of the default RGB38. Then I rezipped and renamed the theme.

I uploaded the 3 PNGs and a preview of how it looks here in case anyone else wants to do this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cmc...ew?usp=sharing

A quick follow-up. I just realised that the default theme gets overwritten when Reaper is updated, so I made a separate theme called Default_6.0_tweaked and set that as my default theme.

You don't need to do that unless you want to share the theme in a convenient package. Just use it unpacked. That also means this...

...won't happen, because only the packed theme will get overwritten.

So what folders/files should I be left with if I don't zip it up again? I tried a few things and nothing worked. Instead of Default_6.0_tweaked.ReaperThemeZip I now have these in my ColorThemes folder:

Folder: "Default_6.0_tweaked"
+
Separate file: "Default_6.0_tweaked.ReaperTheme"

...but if I choose that theme in Reaper, a completely different, older theme appears.

That's all fine, you just need to link the theme to the folder. Open the theme tweaker and set the 'image resource path' entry (at the bottom) to point to your folder.

Thanks. Couldn't find the "theme tweaker" (didn't search for long tbh) but I changed the appropriate line in Default_6.0_tweaked.ReaperTheme in a text editor.

But now I've just realised that the Theme Adjuster cannot be opened unless I keep the original name Default_6.0.ReaperThemeZip. And I'd like to keep that functionality, at least until I've learned more.

So I'll keep a copy of my tweaked theme and continue to overwrite Default_6.0.ReaperThemeZip after each update.

You have to open it from the Action list
Options/Show actions list
you can create a tool bar button for this like you can for the Theme Tweaker.

Alternative, you can copy the script and it's image folder to main Scripts folder and rename them to match you theme name.
The theme adjuster entry will then be available under
Option/Themes

Thanks @lucas_LCS. I went for this latter option. My theme is called NH_6.0 so I copied

C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\Scripts\Cocko s\Default_6.0_theme_adjuster.lua
to
C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\Scripts\NH_6. 0_theme_adjuster.lua

and...

C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\Scripts\Cocko s\Default_6.0_theme_adjuster_images folder
to
C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\Scripts\NH_6. 0_theme_adjuster_images folder

I edited line 174 of NH_6.0_theme_adjuster.lua so that it points to "NH_6.0_theme_adjuster_images/". I guess I could alternatively have had it point to the original images folder so the extra copy would not be necessary.

p.s. Dunno what's up with the space in "Cockos" :S
