Default Uniform 1.0 theme (beta)

Hi guys!

Here's my humble contribution to the REAPER community

The Uniform theme.

It is currently in a beta state and I constantly changing things. Not everything is finished yet but most important areas (TCP, MCP, Arrange View and MIDI Editor) are complete and operational.
Transport bar, main toolbar icons and cursors are not ready though. Also I'm not quite happy with TCP layout.

Features:

TCP
4 TCP Layouts: Default (two raws), One Raw, Centered, Only Meters
7 Colors
Separator track

Mixer
2 MCP Layouts: Default, Sidebar
7 Colors
Separator track

MIDI Editor
Custom midi_note_colormap
54 icons for MIDI Editor toolbar

Arrange View
Item backgrounds with bright, easy-to-see edges
Easy-to-see tabs
Slim scroll bars

3 Theme variations
Uniform 1.0a - green automation envelopes
Uniform 1.0b - black automation envelopes
Uniform 1.0c - color coded automation envelopes

For separator tracks I used BEBAS font by Ryoichi Tsunekawa. I included it in the theme archive but it's a free font and can also be downloaded from here: http://www.dafont.com/bebas.font
If you want to use your own font, you can do it via REAPER Preferences > Appearance > Theme Editor > WALTER font 2

@ahd
Thanks. Good question. Actually there's no specific color for selected items (yet?). They just look a bit different. Like so:

Also, there's no signs for selected tracks, except track label color, which will turn red if the track is armed. I set all new tracks to auto-rec by default and the Mouse click in track view changes track selection option is always enabled. It allows me to work in full screen arrange view with even zero TCP width.

Yeah, it would be better to make selected items more obvious than this, I think.

Some interesting ideas here. The numbers on the tcp meters are hard to read.

looks good, now thinking i prefer the green item to the orange!

tried to install theme but it ends up looking exactly like Classic.1

dragging in the 7zip file wouldn't work, so extracted in winrar then recompressed with windows(7) to a zip file this seemed to 'install' except looks like Classic 1.x

what am i doing wrong?

@ahd You don't need to recompress it. Just extract the 7z archive content into your ColorThemes folder.

Well, to be honest, I tried to implement it but failed. Sorry about that.

BTW, if somebody had made alternative configs for the theme, please share! Because most users will find my original config rather limited and I myself just don't know WALTER good enough to support everybody's wish here.

Thanks for taking time to do this.

What I like:

- DARK BACKGROUNDS!!! A computer monitor is not a sheet of paper.
It's a flashlight.
Thank you for recognizing this!

- I love the color-coded simplicity of it.

- Button & icon states are very clear.

- Subtle gradient on buttons add just the right sense of depth.

It takes a LONG time to make a theme.
Well, less if you're familiar with image editing software.
Still, it can be tedious and there is plenty of trial & error.
I'm working on a now-famous v3 theme mod/remake.
(I'll make a thread for it when it's ready.)

Getting everything right in a theme is a lot of work.
Committing enough time to make a new theme is appreciated!
You got it right with this one!

I'll just say that if you like the Uniform 1.0 theme,
there's a chance you'll like what I've done
(it's also dark theme.)
I'll have it released on or before X-Mas day.
/end thread hijack

Hi vn_
I'm sorry I did not see the thread before (I asked you to share the theme even if it is beta).
This is a very nice minimal theme, well done!
There are some nice ideas Here.

To me it is hard to use it due to the fact that I don't see selected tracks and items clearly.
And it has some bugs but it is beta so it's OK. For example it does not handle track icons properly.

I hope you will develop it in the future if you find some time....

Hi guys! Thanks for not giving up on me

You will probably hate me, but I didn't even tried to finish the theme. I'm still testing differnet layout configurations. I hope these experiments didn't mess up the old ones. I'm a nightmare person, I know

Here's a sneak peek of a latest version:

What's new in 1.1h

Mixer:
- new compact layout
- slim horizontal meters (clipped meters turns red now)
- horizontal volume faders
- track numbers
- smaller fonts for Separator track names
- new icons for Solo, Mute and Monitor buttons (pictograms seem more definitive to me)
- selected track names now have red backgrounds

TCP:
- new 1-raw default layout with less clutter
- folder start and folder end icons
- slim envelope faders

Other:
- slim main toolbar icons (not included )
- new selected item background (boring light grey but works fine if you have colored items in your project)
- dark grey uninformative automation envelopes

Download it here (if you dare): http://db.tt/9mVCmAGD

Extract everything to your ColorThemes folder. This will not replace the old version, so you can switch back at any moment.

Cheers

Very Nice man!! The idea is excellent and the theme has a great potential.
I have large screen but this is very good for small ones.

I still have lots of issues actually.

- I never know which track is selected.
- The default TCP layout is blank, every project starts with blank TCP.
- All the coloured TCP are blank too.

Thanks again for sharing at early stages!

This is probably because I changed layout names and now your REAPER can't find the old ones you set before. Sorry about that. You can set default layouts in Options > Layouts menu. To make REAPER look like on my screenshot you will need to change the settings to the following:

Envelope Panel: V1.1 no values
Master Mixer Panel: sidebar V1.1
Mixer Panel: Slim Sidebar 2 (Slim meters)
Master Track Panel: Layout Default
Track Panel: Default

Hope it helps.

Yes don't worry about it, I know I can set the default layouts but I already have some preferences with that

I was just doing some basic test for you to know how it works on other people computers

Thanks!

I LOVE IT! (sorry for the late feedback, just got around to installing it)

the one thing i thought i was missing was the width and panning in the TCP, but i guess i don't really use those enough that's it's fine that they're accessible via right click on the volume or in the mixer.

i especially love the compacting of folders - i wish reaper would roll up tracks better in general to really small.

the metering on the tcp is awesome and simple!

mixing panel is perfect, super simple and minimal.

echoing what's already been said:
- are the colored tracks supposed to be blank (without controls)?
- it's still hard to tell which tracks are selected i think (unless there's a way to fix that in color settings?)

also
- the playback rate control in the transport is really huge. i guess i have a toolbar that i use to cover it up, but just wanted to mention.
- icon set could use some work.

still my favorite theme as of late! keep up the good work!
