Default Freshly Baked Track

G'day again!

Here is the latest thing I have cooked up - it is track #6 from my forthcoming album. A bit of a slower piece with some swing entitled "Behind The Glass"

Thanks in advance for taking a listen!!

Love this track. Very well done, especially like the movement of the harmonies, really puts some shimmer on the choruses.

Great use of the occasional falsetto, too, that really adds to the vocal.

This reminds me of those great glassy Roy Thomas Baker mixes in the 70's.

I'm gonna want a copy of this album!

You get the "best intro" award! Nice work.

Thanks Craig! I went through quite a few permutations of the verse vocal melodies to get something I was happy with, and then I went a bit nuts layering the harmonies, but it kind of became a "sound" unto itself, so I thought I would explore it.

Haha, thanks Rusty! The intro took quite a bit of doing - I got halfway through it and thought "this is a LOT of work for one person!" Glad it came out ok - thanks for taking a listen and dropping a comment - much appreciated!

I'm a harmony junkie, I think about 87% of the tracks I hear from other artists don't utilize them when they should, or they're downplayed. Nothing makes a song soar like a well done harmony, and yours are really outstanding.

Parts of your songs remind me of Dada's harmony construction...which were always impressive as they only had two guys doing it but they shifted and moved in their harmony arrangements so well it sounded like 3 parts or even more sometimes.

Agreed about the effectiveness of harmonies in a production. I noticed quite early on that if a song had a harmony part, as a listener, I always started to join in singing as soon as the harmonies came in... that was a BIG clue!

On my last album I did some pretty elaborate harmony arrangements (particularly in the song "Outa Control") but I kinda mixed them pretty low for some strange reason... With this set of songs I think I'm ready to go much bolder in that dept.

I think you mentioned Dada before... I don't think I'm familiar with that artist. I tried a search on Google, but I don't think I'm coming up with the correct results - Can you point me in the direction of their music?

Thanks for the kind comments!

Really like the song - great work, my friend.

Yes I'm a harmony guy too - your track takes me back to early 70's sound.....ELO, Yes etc. Many say harmony is too much work, but to me it's the fun part - after the work is done, go back & play with the voices.

Thanks Bruce! Yes, Jeff Lynne is a harmony genius. I love some of Steely Dan’s harmonies too. I agree - they are a lot of fun to play around with.

Thank you for listening and commenting!

They were around in the 90's and 2000's, now kind of semi-retired but had a big hit with Dizz Knee Land. This is the kind of song they did that illustrates how they used harmonies really effectively for a limited amount of vocals by shifting them. Talented guys.

FWIW, the group 7horse is a side project of theirs...they're really cool too, did the song from Wolf of Wall Street (name escapes me), but also a neat band.

I really love when a song lets you sing harmonies throughout verses too, it's not a trick you can use all the time, but a lot of 60's pop and country utilized that and I always dug it. I did sort of a tribute to that style on a track a few years ago...it's a little corny but I love playing stuff like this.

Awesome! Yes I remember "Dizz Knee Land" from a while ago on the radio, but their other stuff is excellent! Thanks for putting me onto them - I just listened to "Information Undertow" - that is very much in my wheelhouse!

Excellent stuff - I've never tried the "harmonies all the way through the verses", but that's a cool sound!
