Some Crimson-ish Prog
I got with my buddy Graham again for a tune. I posted a song we did some time ago and everyone seemed to think is sounded a bit Floyd-ish. When he left me free to sing whatever I wanted on this one, I felt a little KC influence.
Graham Exton: All guitars, fretless bass, and bkg vocals (Graham's the one with the British accent).
Me: Drums, main Vocals, organ, mellotron.

Hi Sam. First, which one are you referring was Floyd-ish. Can you give the link again, plz.
Your work on this new one is awesome. Especially for the panning, so smart and accurate. The doubled acoustic guitars L/R makes a strange (not bad ) sensation. Same for the vocals . Very good job.
See/read you. Bye

Hey Jeranx. Actually, there's three acoustic guitars, but they aren't all played at the same time except in certain spots where Graham does the harmonics. So I put one L, one center, and one R. When I first heard Graham's stark version, I knew where I would go with the vocals, then wrote a few parts that I asked him to sing at the start of the song, except for the "Ghost in the machine" parts. He added those himself and I chopped them up and place them here and there. Thanks man.
The prev song is here:

I think most people preferred the second half.

This has a really unique sound - I can't say it's Floyd-ish, or Crimson-esque. It is very much it's own thing.
I like it a lot - it's weird, but in the range of what I like. I might suggest dropping the vocals just a tiny bit - they kind of overtake the song and drown out the drums a bit.
But it really has it's own sound. Unlike anything - maybe there's a bit of Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson.
I want to hear more. Just work on the mix a bit, and maybe a bit of reverb since it's a bit dry.
But I like it a lot.

Thanks DX. I agree that it doesn't sound that Crimson-ish, but they were an influence. P.Tree is also an influence of mine, not particularly on this one (unless it was on Graham's end, he's also a fan), but I can hear it a bit. I see what you mean by work on the mix more. On a few playbacks, there's a lot going on in the high end I just don't like. I should always step back a day or three before posting, but I never do (sigh).

I had to listen three times before i dared to comment due to other comments.
I don't like this genre, so this is only the mix.
I don't like the vocals. they are too muddy (too much reverb?).
All instruments are clear except the vocals, specificaly the first two minutes.

I hear what you mean, and I don't think it's the verb as much as how I eq'd it. I'll see what I can do. Thanks!

Cool adventurous track, Sammy. Ld gtr sounds real nice too.
EDIT] The first Zoom pedal I had could get a similar sound as that lead but the second one didn't. S_Gear can maybe do it but I don't quite hear it in the presets.

Thanks Morg. Graham sent me the electric guitar files already amped, so I'm not sure what he used. Does sound sweet though.

sam, you know i like your voice(/ings), it's a shame 'hiding' 'em thus far in the bg - mostly
seriously, the main focus is on the vox, imo - except metal, that's hodgepodge anyway

I think it's my perception that's skewed. A lot of times I seriously think my vocals are loud enough in general...until it's made known to me that they're not. And in that respect, I believe a 3rd party over myself. So I need to change is what I perceive as "loud or clear enough" and either/both raise the volume or mix them better.
