Default Default Commala 5 2016 (with fully-tinted track panels)

As several people have requested fully-tinted track panels, I've made an update to my theme mod which I've called 'Default Commala 5 2016' which includes this and other changes to improve usability. Note that the track panel tinting can't be turned off from within Reaper (it's integrated in the image files), simply switch to Default Commala 5 vanilla to do this.

I've also added the large transport from the default Reaper 5 theme, and souped it up a bit (mostly to allow the primary transport buttons when 'center track controls' is set to remain centered as long as possible).

https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1912/De...ReaperThemeZip

========================

Updates include:

- fully-tinted track panels

- item background colour becomes black when selected

- colouring by take will tint item peaks (separate item background and content tinting)

- added the large transport layout from the default Reaper 5 theme

- new colours for midi channels

- new colours for FX parameter envelopes

- new colours for CC lanes in MIDI editor to improve legibility

- darker window list background colour to improve legibility

========================

The dark version of my theme mod, Default Commala 5 is based on Lerian's 'Default Analog' mod of the Reaper 4 default theme by White Tie

Default Commala 5 features:

- MCP track folder-state indentation, as seen in WT Voodoo

- new TCP layouts: big meter, condensed

- new MCP layouts: narrow, FX rack, small master

- reworked MIDI editor

- new panners

- coloured fader layouts

The large transport from V5 looks great with your theme and matches the REAPER Web control interface!

I tend to swap between your dark theme and this default 5 dark theme below. Your new version tinting looks very easy on the eyes.
Excellent new version. Thank you.

+2... but any way to improve the contrast of the item buttons. Grey on grey in a mainly black theme may be cool but not for the over-the-hill Billies like me

Wow, this looks nice. Wel done!
Would it be difficult to make the background in the TCP window for the midi and wav's white? It is a bit too dark for me when editing clips. Also in the midi editor?

You can copy the colours from the light version of the theme by opening the theme tweaker and copying them one by one to this theme (being sure to save a new version and save to that version before switching back to the light theme)

When the buttons are on you can see them much better. I made the buttons in their off state much less visible so that when they're on they'll stand out more. And with a little familiarity you'll remember what buttons are there without actually needing to see them jumping out at you when they're off

Thanks. I already found the theme tweaker in the action list and experimented a bit with it. You know what? It turns out is not super difficult at all, even for me...;-)
But with this theme you did a great job. Thank you!

It's certainly my intention to similarly update the light version... but I can't say when I'll get to that

This is really good news. I instantly tried the updated version yesterday.
I really like the more traditional tinting. It is easier to keep sight even more in bigger projects.

Thank you for your effort.

Is the light version just different colours in the theme editor?

No, many of those are different of course, but the primary differences are in the image files. Also the rtconfig is different because some of the images (the panners e.g.) are a different size and have to be positioned differently. The text colours are brighter too.

To change the light version to be like the new update here, I'll need to change some of the theme colours, add the new transport layout images and code to the rtconfig, give the track backgrounds and the buttons transparency (much trickier to do right than you'd think, because of shading details - if the theme were flat it would be the work of minutes).

Also change some other images (tcp bg and folderstate icons) and copy over the new positioning code for them. It won't take long once I get into it

Ok. Then I will ditch the plan to mess with it myself. I am not a themer/programmer/scripter.
Everytime I think I want to get into this I get confused very soon and end up puzzled

So I will wait for the your light version with tinted tracks. Thank´s instead.
What I especially like is the tremendous variety of track layouts btw.
Most useful of all is the FX-Return. Very good for VSTi / FX.

Thank you for your effort

So I diddled with the "rtconfig.txt" on my own to get the large transport on my modified light version by copying and pasting the lines from the 2016 version and including the "transport-large" folder in the unpacked file. Worked like a charm.

What I can't figure out is how to get rid of the BPM box the way I can do with the other versions. It seems to be linked with "play rate" in the other versions, but not in the big transport code.

I am using REAPER for voiceover and don't really need to mess with BPM in the transport bar. What line of code do I need to modify and/or include to get rid of it?

Still looking forward to the light version!

Commala - This is beautiful. But nothing in my knowledge-base enables me to make it look anywhere near that shot at the bottom of your post #1.

If I could, I would.

I don't know if it's colorsets, screensets, layouts or what. Probably a combination.

What do you have going on there in that screen grab? Any advice for someone trying to duplicate it (Uhhhh... that be me)?

Anyways, congrats on a job beautifully done.

If I may ask... I think this theme would be perfect if it had some kind of "framing" to highlight selected tracks, both in mixer and TCP.

I was using Unempty Minima 73 before Commala and I only miss it.

Look track 5 here to have en example.

https://stash.reaper.fm/2146/Unempty_Minima73-2.png

This is so simplet yet effective.

Thanks,
Mario

Hi

I'm new to using Themes (been using Reaper for a few years, but never got round to trying different looks).

I've got the Default Commala Light theme up and running now and it looks very good. I wonder if it's possible to set it up (or have another version) where the grey area around the TCP and Mixer channels follows the track colour, but the actual track area where the waveforms are stays grey?

Thanks for any help/advice.

The original post shows the TCP with each track colored to match the media.

This is a screenshot of my setup. each track has a colored strip at the end, and I cannot seem to find a layout or option that actually colors the who control:

How do I get the control to be colored instead of just the strip?

Thanks,

Thanks,
perhaps you mislooked the fact there is
"regular" Commala 5:
https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1702/D...ReaperThemeZip
and "2016" Commala 5:
https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/1912/D...ReaperThemeZip

differences clearly visible in provided screenshots in theme links above

I think I lost a few points in reading comprehension for not noticing the "updated" theme, whereas I am using the old one.

hello there, just wanted to show Commala some love.
Yesterday, I spent half an hour downloading and trying themes.... and I always go back to Default Commala!!

The only thing I miss from older themes I used is exactly that:

I see that many themes rely on a very subtle color change, and I often don't know which track is selected...

Default No BPM indicator in default transport panel

Hi

I'm just trying the Default_Commala_5_2016 and I like a lot of it. However, with both the Default and Small Transport options, I can't see a BPM indicator. It's there in the Large version only, but I prefer the smaller Transport bar.

Is there a way to make it appear in the smaller layouts?

Thanks
Andy
