I'd be interested to know your signal path, mic used and setup. Beautiful tone.
Thanks, trevlyns. 1978 Clarke guitar, small acoustically treated room with a high ceiling, Schoeps mk41 mikes in ORTF a couple feet away, Great River MP2H pre. I was playing without fingernails, which I rarely do when I record but I thought this piece suited the subtle sound that gets.
Bravo+encore.
You know Timothy Lawler, out of all the instruments, this 1 i hold closer to the heart-- such a variety of emotions can be expressed with classic guitar.
Drums/rhythm/sounddesign are my 'thing'- but a lot of the time i just really enjoy the subtle and soft relaxing vibes these instruments and players bring.
Timeless is true.
Well recorded/played piece.
Thanx very much.
edit: Trevlyns, one thing I forgot to mention about the setup was that I used three reverbs... two that were different colors and very short decay, and one that had more of a subliminal slapback feel (about 300 milliseconds) that I automated to bring up just a little in a few spots. It gave a hint of an 8th note pulse on the long-held tones. Reaper's mixer routing is great for things like that.
Heh heh, yeah, before I had to quit playing, I played a lot with my fingers too, and it was difficult to keep my finger nails long enough.
So how do you manage with & without finger nails?
Thanks, Tod. About playing with and without nails, I use artificial nails that are held on with a temporary adhesive. Takes about a minute to put them on and another to take them off when I'm done playing. I fabricate my own to fit my fingertips just right. Rico Stover came up with this idea a number of years ago and sells a product called Riconails, which is what I started with re temporary nails: http://www.ricoguitarnails.com/
I love the sound and feel of no-nail technique but sometimes you just need to be louder.

Aah thanks, I kind of figured that, there were a few folks doing that way back in the 80s, at least I was told that, I never tried it.
I did try to keep mine at a certain length so I could use the finger part when I wanted, although it was difficult to be consistent.
Heh heh, I was always a little paranoid with the short nails on my left hand and the long ones on my right, I got kidded some.
EDIT: I was going to ask if you ever use your index finger nail for picking. I did that a lot.
