Default Apologies in advance...

Following some typically heated discussion elsewhere...

I believe it was at one point a stated aim to make the native Reaplugs skinnable.

I appreciate that it's hardly a high-priority concern to make things prettier. Personally I'm fine with the "just the facts, ma'am" GUI, and my working environment doesn't have to look like a vintage mixing desk.

But I reckon it might be a good move to open this area up, so that modders could go to town in the same way they have with themes. A lot of people listen with their eyes - especially migrators. Could be good for business, without compromising the underlying philosophy.

Is this kind of extended functionality EELable, or would it be a total PITA?

PS REAPER is now my home, and I've never looked back since someone said "hey, have you tried..." Thank you to everyone who built it and has contributed to it.

Where? I remember no such statement, and I've been here since 2009.

To be clear, it's not an absolute screamer on my wishlist (I don't really have any screamers), but I do think it's overdue and would be useful. It just seems odd to me that in an environment where just about everything else is so customisable, the stock plugins have been left behind.

I didn't have in mind reinventing the wheel - for the most part, the basic interfaces on the native plugs are fine. Rather something akin to the ability to modify track layouts in theming.

I think I can see how it would be possible to customise ReaPlugs with some really devious work involving JS and Lua, but it would be a lot of work. And very devious. And a wasted effort if release 5.whatever suddenly includes dedicated API extensions to do it directly.
