Default Latency from midi keyboard to reaper

Kinda newbie here, have used reaper at school for 2 years but just graduated and trying to get my own set up at home and I don't really understand everything computer haha
I have a focusrite scarlet 2i2 sound card and an Alesis Q49 midi keyboard

Basically my question is:

Do I have to buy a new sound card to get rid of the latency since my sound card does not have midi in/outputs? Or can I solve the latency problem in another way?

First thing to double-check are the audio preferences and sample rate settings in Reaper. More info here: https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-...er-setup-guide

General info about DAW optimization for audio can be found here:

what are the settings in reaper pref's for the ASIO of your focusrite?

that is what should control the latency... lower values = less latency but more potential for clk's and pops...

try 256

I'm a dummy and hadn't dowloaded the ASIO driver. After I did that the latency got so much better. Thank you, you saved me from having to spend money I dont have on a new soundcard!!
