I´m optimizing my Langpack (Spanish) and have a little doubt for using the right expression.

What´s the difference between Bypass a FX and Set it Offline ??
Is there any or it´s just the same?

Thanks ¡¡¡
Bypass = the plugin is turned off, but still loaded and ready to be switched back on.
Offline = the plugin is completely unloaded.

Hope it helps,
Mario

Thanks Mabian ¡¡¡¡

I have already changed it and use different terms for each.
Now it´s shorter text and words more significant for each context in Spanish ¡¡

Thank you, Ecl!

...And the story goes on...

The following strings and hashes are not present in the template:

Code:
[DLG_506] ; IDD_RENDERDLG1
Source
Bounds
Time bounds
%d regions
Tail:
Still missing are also:

Code:
[DLG_427] ; IDD_RENDERQ
Date/Time
Project
Bounds
Format
Render Target
Code:
[DLG_478] ; IDD_PREFS_RENDER
Default tail length:
ms, render tails when:
Rendering stems for full project via action
Rendering stems for time selection via action
These settings also affect the default tail options in the render window (projects can override the render tail options).
Include tail when freezing entire tracks

Couldn't find some actions' hashcodes:

Code:
Item: Glue items (auto-increase channel count with take FX)
Item: Glue items, ignoring time selection (auto-increase channel count with take FX)
Grid: Use the same grid division in arrange view and MIDI editor
Options: ripple edit all affects tempo map
FX: Show parameter modulation/link for last touched FX parameter
SWS/wol: Full zoom selected envelope (in media lane only) to lower half in time selection
SWS/wol: Full zoom selected envelope (in media lane only) to upper half in time selection
SWS/wol: Put selected envelope in envelope lane
SWS/wol: Put selected envelope in media lane
SWS/wol: Vertical zoom selected envelope (in media lane only) to lower half
SWS/wol: Vertical zoom selected envelope (in media lane only) to upper half
Track: Move tracks to subproject
Project tabs: defer rendering of subprojects (render on tab switch rather than save)
Project tabs: synchronize any parent projects when playing back subproject
SWS/S&M: Show project/global startup actions
and for these:

Code:
[prefs_mediapeaks_help]
Draw peaks (graphical representation of audio loudness and MIDI notes) for media items.
Code:
[prefs_render_help]
When rendering stems for the entire project, apply the tail length setting. This also affects the default tail settings in the render window.
When rendering stems for a time selection, apply the tail length setting. This also affects the default tail settings in the render window.
When freezing an entire track, apply the tail length setting.
By default, only media items will be rendered when freezing. If there are FX on the track, the entire track can be rendered, which may be slower.
...but maybe I'm just

Aah ... and did I mention this already?
Code:
[video2_MENU_105] ; IDR_MENU2
Get width/height/framerate from project

Yet some other things I discovered:

Code:
[DLG_154] ; IDD_PREFS_PLUGINS
Only show FX matching filter string:
reset to recommended default
Code:
[prefs_plugin_help]
Specify filter strings here to allow removing specific plug-ins from the FX browser, e.g.: 'NOT ( Cockos VSTi: )' to remove Cockos softsynths.
Code:
[DLG_158] ; IDD_SURFACEEDIT
MIDI input:
MIDI output:
Surface offset (tracks):
Size tweak:
(leave at 9 unless you know what you're doing)
Ignore fader moves when fader is not being touched
Map F1-F8 to go to markers
Ignore global bank offsets (always map to tracks specified)
Device name:
Pattern config:
Receive on port:
Send to port:
Host IP:
Device IP:
Listen...
Allow binding messages to REAPER actions and FX learn
If outgoing packets are dropped by the network, try increasing these values:
Outgoing max packet size:
Wait between packets:
Strings for the rolldown menu at "Pattern config:" are missing.
As there are:
Code:
Default
LogicPad
LogicTouch
(refresh list)
(open config directory)
Furthermore the string for the caption of the dialog window that opens if you click on "Listen..." is missing.

Code:
OSC: Listening to port %d

There's a minor, but a bit annoying issue with a rolldown menu in Preferences -> Mouse Modifiers:

This gap forces us to use ungainly abbreviations or to have the translated text truncated.
Even using '5CA1E' doesn't help here, unless this (and in consequence all other) prefs pages would have to be made real huge.
If you could minimize that gap (i.e. make the rolldown wider), it would be nice.

Thanks.

There's an issue with dialog '[DLG_126] ; IDD_PROJECTSETTINGS_SETTINGS' still present in V5.20pre23 that seemingly hasn't anything to do with localization, but it gets obvious when the according string is localized (at least in German).

The dialog looks like this:

...but it should look like this:

...since the according string looks like this:

Code:
1B33637BF4614F23=Hz (if unset, hardware default will be used)

Thank you very much, Justin!

Is there any chance that the issue, posted in post #288 could also be solved or am I too fast and you have already done it?

Ahh, that one is because there is a button that only appears on OSX there (swap cmd/opt). Let me see what I can do...

Would it, by any chance, be possible to give us the opportunity to shift and resize elements where necessary in, for instance, the following way to align them?

Hashcode[x,y,w,h]=string

Code:
[DLG_185] ; IDD_SAVEOPTIONS
F82D8812ADB6D26E=Create subdirectory for project
909B744AC415071D[-5,0,+20]=Copy all media into project directory, using:
C90E73117337026E=Convert media
92CE2821A4E6C1EE=Format...
17492618E3105F2C=Trim media, tail size:
4AD4CAC4686A9DBF=Move all media into project directory
BF57174CCB290123[-5,0,-20,+10]=Copy rather than move source media if not in old project media path
;^D8B3B3186B8C817F[-5,+10]=ms
We could use '+' or '-' to shift or resize elements relatively and by leaving +/- out we could do absolute placements of elements.

Examples:

Code:
909B744AC415071D[-5,0,+20]=Copy all media into project directory, using:
This would shift the element 5 pixels left and make it 20 pixels wider. The height value is left out, since it isn't necessary here.

Code:
BF57174CCB290123[-5,0,-20,+10]=Copy rather than move source media if not in old project media path

This would shift the element 5 pixels left, narrow it by 20 pixels and increase the height by 10 pixels, so we could word wrap the string to use the space more efficiently.

By heightening the element it could be necessary to shift elements below it and therefore

Code:
D8B3B3186B8C817F[-5,+10]=ms
might have to be shifted 10 pixels down. In this case width and height values aren't necessary either.

Here's an example of a page of the preferences window.
The original (looks quite nice):

The translated version does show up like this (errm, yeah):

Just BTW: The preferences window is quite huge, because some (other) pages in this window demand it, which probably might not be the case if we could line up things (better).

I'm aware, that it could force us to use some ';^' entries more often, instead of using the [common] string, but dialogs would look more tidy (if done correctly).

The localization gets more complete now.
However, up to now I found a few issues that the new langpack file for V 5.22 doesn't cover yet.
  • In [MENU_314] ; IDR_CONTEXTS_14 in these submenus

    Code:
    E5EC9FB6412B6909=Quick add FX
    D3063B43F9DA5F98=Quick replace FX
    the string "Resently used" isn't present in template.

  • In section [fxmenu] in submenu

    Code:
    0AD292FBFCD786F2=FX parameter list
    the string "Parameter modulation/MIDI link" isn't present in template.

  • There are several issues with these newly added entries in section [midi].

    Code:
    266B8669933B3612=Move note up one semitone (%s)
    F726E800965F72B3=Move note down one semitone (%s)
    D306B1A196D88D4E= natural
    69F0934C971CF9E0=Notate as %c%s
    • The first two entries contain the word "natural" in their (%s) strings, but this word does not refere to entry

      Code:
      D306B1A196D88D4E= natural
      since, even if this is changed or removed the word "natural" still appears in (%s) but it can't be found somewhere else in the template.

    • In entry

      Code:
      69F0934C971CF9E0=Notate as %c%s
      the links to %c and %s can't be exchanged; the results will be non-translated menu item entries.

    • Also it seems that %c doesn't refer to any note name entry (i.e. [tag_note]) in the template, as well as for instance the submenus of 'Change key signature -> Root' don't.
      In German notation e.g. the notes B and Bb are named H and Hb, but they still appear as B and Bb. If you notate a Db as B##, it shows this instead of H##.
      Same goes for notating an A as Bbb. It should show Hbb not Bbb, as it currently still does.

    • Furthermore the strings

      Code:
         Treble + bass
         Treble
         Bass
         Alto
         Tenor
         Treble -8
         Treble +8
         Treble +15
         Bass -8
         Bass -15
         Percussion
         Percussion  (one staff line)
      for the submenus (and others where they might appear)

      Code:
      16488DC78BBB6890=Default clef
      67206DAC7EB4E383=Clef
      are missing in the template. Especially missing note names and clef names are very basic musical things and therefore it's quite important that they should be added ASAP.

    • The submenu of 'Transpose display -> Transposing instruments' is completely missing yet:

      Code:
      +24 C	Glockenspiel
      +12 C	Piccolo, Xylophone
      +10 Bb
      +9 A
      +8 Ab	Piccolo clarinet
      +7 G		Treble flute
      +5 F		Trumpet
      +3 Eb	CIarinet, Trumpet
      +2 D
      +0 C		Flute, Oboe
      -2 Bb Cornet, Flugelhorn, Trumpet, Soprano sax/clarinet
      -3 A
      -4 Ab
      -5 G		Alto flute
      -7 F		Horn, Mellophone
      -9 Eb Alto sax/clarinet, Tenor Horn
      -10 D
      -12 C		Bass
      -14 Bb	Tenor sax
      -21 Eb	Baritone sax
      -24 C
      -26 Bb	Bass sax

  • The following entries in [prefs_mediapeaks_help] won't work in translation.

    Code:
    [prefs_mediapeaks_help]
    CF3D149F4194FD91=Draw peaks (
    9C7FB4BA90544B49=) for media items.
    The string inside the brackets
    Code:
    graphical representation of audio loudness and MIDI notes
    isn't present in the template at all.

  • The strings for the roll-down menus in window [DLG_269] ; IDD_BUTTONFINDER are still not present. See post #289

  • The strings for the header of the render queue list are translated, but still they won't show up as such:
    Code:
    D3BC181CB0EE6EFD=Date/Time
    A2BF58A6DFD853DC=Project
    8406BA540B0EBD5A=Bounds
    (Format)
    5F78C7926247817C=Render Target
    See post #285

    Also there is (are) no template entry (entries) for the strings in the 'Format' column, which means e.g., strings like "WAV 2ch 44.1kHz 16bit" can't be translated.

  • The strings for the roll-down menu in window [DLG_288] ; IDD_THEMEBLENDMODE are also missing:
    Code:
    Normal
    Add
    Dodge
    Multiply
    Overlay
    HSV Adjust
  • Also the strings in the dialog [DLG_288] ; IDD_THEMEBLENDMODE itself:

    Code:
    The blend color is drawn over the base color.
    Alpha closer to zero allows more of the base color to show through.

    The blend color is added to the underlying color.
    Dark colors become lighter, light colors are less affected.
    A black blend color has no effect, a white blend color always results in white.

    The blend color is color-dodged with the base color.
    Dark areas in the base color will be tinted lighter, toward the blend color, light areas in the base color will be less affected.
    A black blend color has no effect.

    The blend color is multiplied with the base color.
    A black blend color always results in black, a white blend color has no effect.

    The blend color is overlaid onto the base color.
    Dark base colors become lighter, and light colors become darker.
    Alpha closer to zero reduces the amount of overlay.

    Each RGB element in the blend color is interpreted as an offset from 128.
    R rotates hue , G adjusts saturation, B adjusts color value.
    A blend color of gray (128,128,128) has no effect.
    (192,96,255) will rotate the base hue +1/4 way around the color wheel, subtract 1/2 from the base saturation, and increase the base color value to full.

    CPU cost:
    lowest
    low
    moderate
    high
    highest
    REMARK: The string that describes 'HSV Adjust'

    Code:
    Each RGB element in the blend color is interpreted as an offset from 128.
    R rotates hue , G adjusts saturation, B adjusts color value.
    should probably be

    Code:
    Each HSV element in the blend color is interpreted as an offset from 128.
    H rotates hue , S adjusts saturation, V adjusts color value.
    Shouldn't it?

  • The rolldown menu in [DLG_438] ; IDD_CUSTOMIZE_MENU can't also be translated yet, since its strings are not in the template either:

    Code:
    Main file (&File)
    Main edit (&Edit)

    Main insert (&Insert)

  • The following strings for SWS-actions are missing in the template for SWS Extensions V 2.8.3.0:

    Code:
    SWS: Toggle master/parent send on selected track(s)
    SWS: Select item(s) with saved state on selected Track(s)
    SWS: Set last touched Track to match Track selection (deprecated)

That's all for now, my beloved ones.

Just discovered a few more things that are missing:

Code:
[DLG_576] ; IDD_DEVICE_ERRORS
E5BE82CE7EF165E8=Error opening devices
336560F6444C4D2F=Audio device
DC550AF3D8DE1D84=Do not show this window again
BAC64C1B2E060EE5=Close
E65D106B2B1EE745=MIDI devices
These are translated but don't show up as such. Even the explicit hashcode for 'Close' for this dialog doesn't work.

Code:
[DLG_285] ; IDD_MIDICONSOL
The caption of this window and the strings inside the frame 'Output'

are missing, due to changes since V5.22.

  • There are two menu items in the FX window's menu that are not in the template.

    Code:
    Copy selected FX (include automation) tCtrl+Alt+C
    Ignore FX chain keyboard shortcuts (send to main vvindovv)
  • The complete sub-menu 'Automation notifications' of the FX browser is missing for some reason.

  • The JS Development dialog is missing completely.

  • In Dialog '[DLG_280] ; IDD_DYNAMIC_SPLIT' in frame 'Action to perform' the last three menu items of the rolldown menu aren't in the tempate.
    Code:
    Write stretch markers to selected items
    Write stretch markers to selected items and add to grouped items

  • The entries for the string 'Adjusted:' that appear in the tooltip when moving automation values won't show up translated.

  • In '[prefs_vst_help]' the string
    Code:
    Allow unloading of VST DLLs, which gets them completely out of memory, but also may cause compatibility issues.
    is missing in the template due to change.

Hi TonE,

that's a well meant proposal, but in my view Google translate is more a joke generator than a help.
There's a much more relevant problem, namely the fact, that the template files for localization are updated quite rarely, which means that the translaters simply can't keep up with the development due to that fact. The latest template file is dated July, 15th 2016 and it was for V5.22. Since then many things have been changed and even strings that were translated before, suddenly appear in English again in newer versions. The worst thing about this is that you discover those strings only accidentally or you have to search and try each menu, roll-down menu, dialog and whatnot to find them when a new version comes up.
The way localization is handled by Justin & Co. doesen't give the opportunity to ever get a complete localization.
I contacted Justin whether it is possible to solve this dilamma, but to no avail yet.
Even in this very thread I made a few proposals or so.
As long as the translators have no access to all the strings (and data to align elements in dialogs) in a final Reaper release, nothing will ever change. This is a bit disappointing, because localizations will always somewhat look like a kludge if there is no change to cover this issue.

Hi ¡¡¡

Totally agree with Mr. Data

It would be lovely, useful, wonderful, grateful and a million more of positive adjectives, to have a faster localization update system, and also access to all or most of strings.

Normally translators (and user behind our work) have to wait normally 6 months till Langpack is updated and sometimes not all string ( some of them very importants ) can be translated.

I join to Mr. Data request for implementing a new way for Langpack updates, so we can work side by side with Reaper's New Releases

Here is the link of the Youtube Video in which I have located my Spanish Langpack download link ( joined to a lot of tutorials in my language ) :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j75IyKxqm7M

I don't know if all the visitors there use Reaper or purchase it as I recomend in another video but at least over 19.400 people at today's day visited the video interested in Reaper's Spanish version.

I hope something can be done about this topic ¡¡¡¡¡

Good day and also congratulations for all those news fixes, features and fast and continuous getting better job with Reaper ¡¡¡

Hi Justin,

thank you very much for uploading a new template!
I'll do my best to make things fit as fast as I can, 'cos to my experience there's a great demand in having a German REAPER, which is even a better REAPER for those, not that familiar with the English language.

Maybe this year we find a solution for the problem, being always nine or three steps behind in localizing.

Yeah!

Few people and I are trying to translate Reaper into Chinese (mandarin), and we stumbled upon a free web hosted translating management tool called Weblate @ https://weblate.org/
I myself am not really experienced in setting up servers, thus a bit stuck with offline translating tools.
If it benefits the progress of continuous reaper translation, maybe we could try it.

Just hopping in to say all those involved in translating Reaper a huge thank you. They are devoting a massive amount of time and dedication to this. I know from reading the german forum that lots of people are using the localized versions.

It's sad to read that it's even more of a moving target than I thought (and I did already know it is a massively daunting task).
While it's understandable that localization can't ever be quite up-to-date with the latest version of Reaper it is not encouraging that translations already done keep breaking without notice and that there's obviously unsufficient means to make dialog boxes look tidy.
Actually it's a bit of a miracle to me that Data, ecl and all the others (I'd really like to name everyone involved, but can't, obviously) keep up their great work on this, while they are fully aware that the result can never be quite satisfying.

Please, devs, put some extra effort into this case, to make lives a bit easier for these fine people.

Basically this means that most of the Finnish translations will have to be done line by line, quite a job and as far as I see, not quite possible with current i8n arrangement. For what it's worth, I tried to translate the l33t file few days ago just to see how it works, but due to basic language differences, possible string problems, odd marks etc. are almost moot while the basic text itself won't quite translate right.

I gather Hungarian translators will face same issues also.

Some movement regarding langpacks, folks!

Now you can easily generate hashes for i8n strings using this tool, thanks to Justin!

http://landoleet.org/i8n/string_calculator.html

So you can update action lists etc. easily from now on, without waiting on the next langpack update (provided you put the hash in the correct section, etc., of course).

GREAT ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

I don't understand quite well how it works but GREAT ¡¡¡¡¡

For instance: In the following screen capture you can see some string which are not in template:

- Audio Devices, - Error Opening Devices, - Do not show this window again, - Close

I try this:

What should we do after that ?

THANKS X 1.000 for this tool ¡¡¡¡

First I think you need to be careful regarding capital letters - they need to match exactly, or you'll get a different string.

For dialogs, it's a bit tricky, since you need to know the name of the dialog (for example DLG_1013, or whatever) to create a section in the langpack for it...

By the way, the new and updated template langpack is on Landoleet, and you can see that dialog is there ([DLG_576]).

Thanks EvilDragon for your rapid response.

I wrote it taking care with the capital letters and as you said, the string is different.

I hava also copied the new Langpack template and merge with mine using merge tool.

How can I find out the DLG for section string ?
I was hoping that when you used calculator it automatically show you the DLG in which string has to be inserted.

Thanks ¡¡¡¡

Calculator cannot know the dialog number from just the text in any way... I suppose for that you need to open Reaper.exe with something like Resource Hacker and see the dialog number there.

It's pretty easy. Download Resource Hacker, drop Reaper.exe into it, on the left side you will see Dialog folder with lots of subfolders each having a number. Those are the numbers you'll need. You can further expand those subfolders and actually see the dialog, so you know which one to tweak.

Thanks ED for the info.
Yes, Resource Hacker is the tool to use.

And a special thank you to Justin.

Did a couple of spot tests and it seems to work nicely.
I hope, that postings of missing strings are obsolete from now on.

The error might be, that you have the entry 336560F6444C4D2 twice in this block.
